Apple TV confirmed today that it has picked up Alfonso Cuarón’s Ascension series, marking his second collaboration with the platform. Here are the details.

Apple TV and Alfonso Cuarón team up again

In October 2024, Apple TV premiered Disclaimer, a thriller series created by legendary director Alfonso Cuarón (Gravity), and starring Cate Blanchett (Tár), Kevin Kline (A Fish Called Wanda), and Sacha Baron Cohen (The Dictator), among others.

Today, the company confirmed its second collaboration with Cuarón, announcing that it has picked up his new psychological horror thriller series titled Ascension.

Here’s Apple TV on the upcoming show:

Inspired by the novel “Last Days” by Adam Nevill, “Ascension” is a one-hour psychological horror thriller following Rose, a relentless documentary filmmaker and recently divorced mother who is brilliant at uncovering others’ truths but struggling to resolve her own. When Rose begins a project on a mysterious 20th-century cult known as the Church of Ascension, she finds unexpected refuge in its teachings — until she discovers something far more insidious beneath. “Ascension” explores evil and innocence at the highest level, while asking how far we’ll go — and what we’ll sacrifice — to protect the ones we love, even when the greatest threat to them may be ourselves.

Apple TV notes that in addition to marking its second collaboration with Cuarón, Ascension will also mark “the second project for Apple and star Balfe, who is next set to appear in Apple Original Films’ Tenzing.”

Ascension will be produced by Anonymous Content, which is also behind the highly anticipated Neuromancer series, set to premiere on Apple TV in January 2027, as well as the heist drama “12 12 12.”
