Anne Hathawayhas been on quite the odyssey.
After starring in five movies released this year, the Oscar winner fulfilled her promise of vanishing from the spotlight in the most hilarious way.
“We’re heading out to theVeritypremiere,” Hathaway said ina videorecorded before the Sept. 29 event and shared to Instagram Oct. 2. “Veritycomes out in theaters Friday, Oct. 2, and then on Oct. 3…”
But as the 43-year-old is speaking, an animated plume of smoke bursts onto the screen and she disappears, prompting confusion from a member of her team.
Then, faux headlines appear that read, “Anne Hathaway disappears,” “As promised, Anne Hathaway vanishes into a plume of smoke,” and “Anne Hathaway simply evaporates.”
Indeed, the week before, Hathaway—who announced in June she is pregnant with her third baby with husbandAdam Shulman—noted she was going to “disappear and take some time off” after her fifth press tour, quipping in a Sept. 21 interview withEntertainment Tonight, “The movie comes out Oct. 2 and on Oct. 3 I’m going to, like, vanish in a plume of smoke and you’re not gonna see me until you have to.”

“It’s a lot and you want to be able to show up fully for each film,” she said during an Oct. 2 appearance onCBS Mornings. “And that’s asking a lot of people to look at you for a long period of time. But then I thought to myself, ‘What if it goes better than you’d imagine?’”
And now, Hathaway is simply filled with appreciation.
“Thank you everyone for your support,” she wrote at the end of her Oct. 2 Instagram video, “and for making this an incredible, unforgettable year.”
