Anna Kendrick is determined to make The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo adaptation aca-awesome.
The Pitch Perfect alum—who is set to direct the upcoming adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s 2017 novel—revealed she’s going to great lengths to make the film special for OG fans.
“I’m thinking about the fans all the time,” Kendrick exclusively told E! News at the world premiere of her upcoming film Babies, set to hit theaters in 2027, during the Toronto International Film Festival Sept. 12. “Whenever somebody comes up to me and is like, ‘Oh, my best friend or my agent or my so and so is like, you don’t understand. They’re obsessed with that book.’ I’m like, ‘Give me their number.’”
“I want to talk to them because I want to know exactly what gets at the heart of it for people because this book is so moving,” she added, “and I of course have a big task ahead of me, and I am desperate to get it right.”
That said, she’s tight-lipped about what fans can expect from the project.

“We’re still in the script phase,” Kendrick, 41, said, “so I cannot accidentally say something that will get me in so much trouble.”
While a lead hasn’t been set in stone just yet, there have been rumblings among fans as to who should step into Evelyn’s shoes. Among those named has been Eiza González, though the Three Body Problem actress previously remained coy over the rumors.
“Have I pitched myself? When did I pitch myself?” González said in conversation with E! News in March. “But I would love to. I love that book.”
“It’s incredibly smart and ahead of its time,” she continued. “It dives into real relationships and how complicated they are. I’ve been waiting for that to get adapted and hopefully be an amazing script. So, I’d be honored.”
But Kendrick wasn’t the only celeb who showed face at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival. Keep reading for more…
