Abundantia Entertainment today announced a collaboration with Select Media for its latest feature film, ‘Haare Ka Sahara, Baba Khatu Shyam Hamara’, inspired by the sacred and widely revered story of Shri Khatu Shyam Ji or Shyam Baba, as he is lovingly called by his devotees.
Slated for release in theatres in 2027, the film will bring to the big screen the extraordinary journey of the valiant Mahabharata warrior, Barbarik, who was granted eternal life by Lord Krishna and came to be worshipped as Khatu Shyam Baba and how faith and belief in him guides the paths of millions even today. Lovingly invoked by his devotees as “Haare Ka Sahara” – the refuge of those who have lost hope – his principal shrine at Khatu in Rajasthan’s Sikar district is one of the country’s major centres of devotional faith and draws vast numbers of pilgrims from across the world.
The collaboration between Abundantia Entertainment and Select Media brings together a shared ambition to tell this story with scale, emotional depth, cultural authenticity and the reverence it demands. The makers intend to work closely with scholars, spiritual advisers and those deeply familiar with the devotional traditions associated with Shyam Baba, with authenticity and reverence forming the foundation of the creative process.
Speaking about the film, Vikram Malhotra, Founder & CEO, Abundantia Entertainment, said: “Having grown up in Rajasthan, I have personally seen the extraordinary faith and belief that people have in Shyam Baba. It is not something you understand only through numbers or the scale of the pilgrimage — you see it in the way people speak about him, travel enormous distances to seek his blessings, and turn to him with an almost instinctive sense of surrender and hope. That faith has stayed with me. That idea is both timeless and deeply human. Faith, sacrifice, hope, and the belief that there is strength even in surrender are emotions that go far beyond geography, generation or circumstance.
At Abundantia, we have always believed that some of India’s most powerful stories are the ones that have travelled from generation to generation — through families, faith, oral traditions and lived culture. Haare Ka Sahara, Baba Khattar Shyam Hamara is set to be a film that will hope to carry this legacy forward.
I am delighted that we are partnering with Select Media on this journey. We share a strong belief in the power of this story and, equally importantly, in the responsibility that comes with telling it. Together, our ambition is to approach the story of Shri Khatu Shyam Ji with immense reverence and authenticity, while creating a cinematic experience worthy of the scale and emotion of his following. This is not simply a story we want audiences to watch. It is a story that millions already carry within them. Our responsibility is to honour that faith.”
Rajnish Khanuja, Founder, Select Media Holdings, said: “Devotional entertainment is a space we believe has tremendous emotional and cultural depth. These are stories that are not merely consumed as entertainment; they are connected to faith, memory and lived belief, and that makes the responsibility of telling them all the more significant. The story of Shri Khatu Shyam Ji immediately stood out to us because of the extraordinary devotion that surrounds Shyam Baba and the timeless values at the heart of his legend — sacrifice, faith, surrender and hope. We believe this has the potential to become a deeply moving and truly cinematic theatrical experience for audiences across the country.
We are delighted and proud to partner with Vikram and the team at Abundantia Entertainment on this film. Abundantia brings a strong storytelling sensibility, scale of ambition and a deep respect for the material, and we share the same conviction that a story of such immense faith must be approached with authenticity, sensitivity and reverence. We are excited to come together to bring the story of Shri Khatu Shyam Ji to the big screen.”
Further details on the film’s director, cast and production will be announced subsequently.
The film will release theatrically in 2027.
