After the box office success of Border 2and OTT success of his recent Netflix film Ikka,Sunny Deol is all set to wreak havoc at the box office again with Aamir Khan’s Batwara 1947.
Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, Batwara 1947becomes a rare Sunny Deol movie to get A rating by CBFC with 2 hours and 25 minutes of runtime.
In fact, in the last 26 years since the year 2000, only six Sunny Deol movies have been certified Adults Only by CBFC and now Batwara 1947 has become the seventh.

Directed by Padam Kumar, Championmarked Rahul Dev’s debut in Hindi cinema and starred Sunny Deol in the lead role along with Manisha Koirala.
It’s strange that Championwas given A certificate considering it featured a bunch of kids and was marketed as a children-friendly movie.
Farz (2001)
Directed by Raj Kanwar, Farztook inspiration from Lethal Weaponand Ricochetand Metro.
The movie starring Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta and Jackie Shroff was given A rating by CBFC for excessive violence and usage of drugs.
Karz: The Burden Of Truth(2002)
The Harry Baweja directorial starred Sunny Deol, Suniel Shetty and Shilpa Shetty in lead roles.
The action thriller was also given A rating for scenes depicting r*pe, sexual assault and excessive violence.
Jaani Dushman: Ek Anokhi Kahani (2002)
Often mocked and ridiculed, this supernatural action thriller has gained a cult following for all the wrong reasons. The Rajkumar Kohli directorial starring Sunny Deol, Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Arshad Warsi, Aftab Shivdasani, Sonu Nigam and Manisha Koirala among others.
It’s interesting that it was given A rating by CBFC perhaps due to supernatural element in the movie and a scene depicting sexual assault.
Mohalla Assi (2018)
16 years after his last A rated movie, Sunny Deol starrerMohalla Assitoo got Adults Only rating from CBFC as it was filled with several expletives among other things.
satirical drama starred Sunny Deol, Sakshi Tanwar and Ravi Kishan in the lead roles and was directed by Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi.
It was loosely based on Dr. Kashinath Singh’s popular Hindi novel Kashi Ka Assi.
Chup: Revenge of the Artist (2022)
Starring Sunny Deol, Dulquer Salmaan, Shreya Dhanwanthary and Pooja Bhatt, the R Balki directorial was given A rating by CBFC for excessive use of violence.
Now, Batwara 1947,which is one of the biggest movies of the year, has become Sunny Deol’s seventh movie in the last 26 years to be given A rating by CBFC.
It will be interesting to see how much its A rating affects the box office prospects considering it is clashing with Emraan Hashmi’sAwarapan 2.
Batwara 1947 is releasing in theatres on August 14, 2026.
