With A24 releasing their newest film, Primetime (featuring my close personal Gen Z friend Robert Pattinson), as well as their latest wardrobe collaboration with Dior, I’ve been in a constant state of scrolling on every social media platform to find out which celebrities have the Dior A24 shirt.
So far, I’ve counted Sabrina Carpenter, Pedro Pascal, Anya Taylor-Joy, Mia Goth, Robert Pattinson, and Mike Faist. No, it’s not a competition. Yes, I do think Faist wore it best.
This Dior collab brings about the newest form of what I like to call the “Film, Fashion, or Both” method. It’s a form of advertising that’s happened time and time again as a way for actors to promote their movie in a fun, fashionable way while also getting audiences to want the merchandise associated with that film. Truthfully, it’s an incredible form of marketing, and I’ve fallen victim to it at least once or twice.
Let’s list a few examples of these crossovers throughout the past decade and do a quick analysis of the role they’ve played in pop culture overall.
“I Told Ya”: Challengers
You had to see this one coming. I mean, there’s no way I could make it through this article without talking about my favorite piece of media to be released in the universe, Challengers.
Challengers premiered in Sydney, Australia, in March 2024 and hit theaters worldwide just a month later. I could talk about this movie and all my thoughts on it for hours, but I want to focus on the infamous “I Told Ya” T-shirt that Zendaya’s character, Tashi, and Josh O’Connor’s character, Patrick, wear interchangeably throughout the film.
While it’s not the most extravagant outfit showcased in this movie, it’s the one article of clothing that made it to promotions that year. The shirt was seen across the streets of New York, Chicago, and L.A. on numerous celebrities, including Jennifer Lawrence, and was traditionally styled with jeans or a jacket over top. Simple, sure, but it was a hit with audiences.
The shirt became a massive fashion moment still seen today (on FSU campus, as I wear it with pride) and was one of the first instances in which everyday clothing was advertised almost more effectively than the traditional higher-end designs typically seen in interviews.
Marty Supreme Jacket: Marty Supreme
Marty Supreme is an A24 film based on the true story of the infamous table tennis player Marty Reisman that was released in theaters worldwide during Christmas 2025.
Unlike Challengers, the Marty Supreme jacket that featured in the streets on the backs of major celebrities wasn’t actually seen in the movie. Instead, it was meant to be used more as an ode to the film as a collaboration between L.A.’s luxury street brand Nahmias and the A24 company.
Basically, “I Told Ya,” Tashi walked so Marty Supreme Jacket Justin Bieber could run.
The number of high-profile celebrities seen in this windbreaker was insane, and seeing the cast follow such a similar marketing tactic to Challengers made me realize just how effective this advertising was. It was also a successful way to bridge the gap between streetwear and traditional fashion in pop culture today, normalizing a simple, baggy wardrobe.
A24 Dior
It felt appropriate to end on this one, as the collaboration between these two companies was confirmed on Sept. 10. This partnership is meant to combine theater and fashion over the course of two years and will showcase events at the Cherry Lane Theater in New York.
Although it’s not necessarily a traditional form of screen-to-street advertising, it’s something incredibly unique that hasn’t really been seen before today. Of course, there are the red carpet “Who are you wearing tonight?” outfits that allow celebrities to show off different brands in their own way, but there aren’t typically long-term partnerships between a film studio and a luxury label.
This marks an entirely new shift in how brands, especially higher-end ones like Dior, are reaching their Gen Z audience. I must admit, it certainly makes me excited about fashion again.
While the happenings of this deal and what to expect to premiere at Cherry Lane are being kept under wraps, there are some high hopes for opportunities for inclusivity and representation at the core of these shows.
Of course, there are hundreds of other iconic examples that shaped this film-fashion crossover episode idea, like The Wizard of Oz’sblue-and-white gingham dress, Audrey Hepburn’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s black dress, or the classic Clueless black-and-yellow blazer. However, those were major players in shaping the pop culture of their own time rather than today’s.
Now, we can focus on appreciating these new fashion trends and concepts that are seemingly pushing towards simplicity and minimalism in the wardrobe rather than maximalism. Plus, we get to see so many celebrities coming together to show support for all these different actors and actresses who are finally getting the flowers they deserve.
