Thirteen years since the conclusion of “Victorious,” Netflix has announced the release date for an all-new spinoff inspired by the teen sitcom.
On Aug. 17, Netflix released the teaser for “Hollywood Arts,” the official spinoff of the Nickelodeon series “Victorious,” which aired from 2010 to 2013. Making its debut on Oct. 15, the series stars Daniella Monet as Trina Vega, Tori’s sister from “Victorious,” as a substitute teacher back at Hollywood Arts High School.
The series follows Vega “finding herself both clashing with and unexpectedly inspiring a new generation of ambitious and talented students as they learn to find their true path at Hollywood’s most elite performing arts school,”
As the release date nears, here’s what to know about “Hollywood Arts.”
When does ‘Hollywood Arts’ release?
“Hollywood Arts” premieres on Netflix at 3 a.m. ET on Oct. 15.
What the ‘Hollywood Arts’ teaser
What are fans saying about the ‘Hollywood Arts’ teaser?
The “Hollywood Arts” teaser has received mixed reviews from fans.
Some are excited for Monet’s return in one of their favorite Nickelodeon settings.
“Only a few seconds about Trina, but it brings me the same feeling when I used to watch ‘Victorious,'” one Instagram user commented on Netflix’s teaser post.
“I dig the fact that they’re using fresh faces while also showing the older faces to obviously give you that nostalgia factor,” TikTok user Cinespidey said in a video on Aug. 17.
But others, especially millennial audiences, are unhappy that the reboot features an almost entirely new cast.
“It’s funny how Gen Z seems to be the only one excited about this,” one TikTok user commented on Netflix’s video promoting the series. “I’m a Millennial and I definitely won’t be watching. ‘Victorious’ ended 13 years ago and this sequel does not even come close to what it used to be on the show.”
And some are disappointed with a production company releasing yet another reboot.
“Is the industry incapable of an original thought?” another TikTok user commented on Netflix’s video. And another said: “They have got to stop remaking the shows/movies from Disney and Nickelodeon early 2000s because they are always such a letdown. Just start making new shows.”
Who makes up the ‘Hollywood Arts’ cast?
According to Netflix, the “Hollywood Arts” cast features:
- Daniella Monet as Trina Vega
- Alyssa Miles as Emmy
- Emmy Liu-Wang as Pepper
- Peyton Jackson as Qwest
- Erika Swayze as Jen Z
- Martin Kamm as Oscar
Why is Victoria Justice not in ‘Hollywood Arts’?
Victoria Justice, who played Tori Vega in the original “Victorious” series, is not in “Hollywood Arts.” Though Netflix has not officially said why Justice wasn’t cast for the new series, Justice told ET during a recent red carpet interview that “maybe Tori will pop in for an episode.”
“I’m honestly just so happy for Daniella. I love her and she deserves all the success and all the best,” Justice said.
Liz Gillies, who played Jade West on “Victorious” has also shared her thoughts about the new series.
“I don’t want to also create any rift in what they have planned for this season,” Gillies said during an interview on the “Zach Sang Show” earlier this year. “I can’t wait to watch it come out and see what they’ve done with it. I know Daniella’s going to do an amazing job. I think she’s the perfect person from ‘Victorious’ to carry on the legacy.”
