You five Eternals fans may be very disappointed to hear what Kevin Feige said about the sequel.
This may be a bit mean, but I think The Eternals is probably one of the most forgettable movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe catalog. I couldn’t tell you anything that happened in that movie, and despite the fact that it was a rare Marvel Studios movie that was actually shot on location, it still looked lifeless. This is clearly another attempt like Guardians of the Galaxy to catapult a group of lesser-known characters to stardom, but it just doesn’t have the same charm or even an interesting story. It doesn’t help that the film was released in 2021, when the COVID-19 pandemic was still severely affecting movie theaters, and the film grossed $402 million on a $236 million budget, which wasn’t exactly a huge win.

Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige recently spoke with Inverse about a possible sequel, but it sounds like you shouldn’t expect one at all. “There are currently no plans for Eternals 2,” Feige told Inverse. “I think you may have seen confirmation of some of these events in the trailer we released recently. Something huge comes from the ocean.”
What Feige is referencing here is a moment from the first trailer for Captain America: Brave New World, in which Anthony Mackie’s Captain America circles the giant dead Tiam left in the wake of the events of The Eternals Special Flight, a point that prompted countless Marvel fans to bring up the fact that no movie or TV show has ever acknowledged this since it happened.
Interestingly, The Eternals’ post-credits scenes aren’t mentioned either, as one of the scenes that sets up Kit Harington’s character as the Black Knight introduces Mahershala Ali’s Blade, a film that meets many Troubled movie, which recently lost its director. It also made the confusing decision to introduce Harry Styles into the Marvel Universe as Eros, the brother of former villain Thanos. It’s safe to say that The Eternals will continue to be considered a bit of a mess.
