KALAMAZOO, Mich. —Gamers of all ages gathered in Kalamazoo for the Michigan Retro Game Expo on Saturday.
The expo, which organizers said is the first retro game convention to be held in Kalamazoo, took place at the Delta Hotels Kalamazoo Conference Center for a one-day event.
Despite this year being the first year of the expo, organizers couldn’t have been happier about the turnout.

“It’s a great turnout, this is insane. I didn’t know what I expected, but it wasn’t a line this far out the door. As of last night, we were just over 700 in presales,” said Kris Carlson, CEO of Verge and an organizer of the expo.
The expo offered a myriad of offerings for gamers, including a free play room with classic video games, over 70 art and video game vendors, Dungeons and Dragons sessions, tournaments, and more.
Advertised as an all-ages event, the expo also featured a kids’ room with activities geared towards kids. A representative from Nintendo was also at the expo.

Organizers said they are planning on hosting another retro game expo next year, which they plan on making a two-day event.
