Pokémon heads to Disney+: a new Aardman series arrives in 2027

Disney has struck a new global distribution deal with The Pokémon Company International, picking up Pokémon animation for Disney+ and Disney XD across multiple markets. That includes older shows, plus a big new original project. For viewers, the main upside is pretty simple: after years of Pokémon releases landing in different places, there’s finally a more obvious streaming home for at least part of the catalog. Disney and The Pokémon Company International still haven’t shared the financial terms, how long the deal runs, the full list of markets, whether more series are coming, or much else on the business side.

The agreement also includes Pokémon the Series: The Beginning, which follows Ash and Pikachu’s early adventures. It’s already airing on Disney XD and streaming on Disney+ in the US and in select international markets. The bigger draw, though, is Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu. That’s a new stop-motion series from Aardman, set in Galar, with Sirfetch’d and Pichu protecting other Pokémon. The story is told entirely from the Pokémon point of view, with no human characters at all. It’s set to debut on Disney XD and stream exclusively on Disney+ in 2027.

If you keep up with Pokémon, this matters for the cleaner setup alone. Right now, available titles are on Disney XD and Disney+, depending on where you live.
