New Delhi, Aug 28 (PTI) Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL) is investing in sports, animation, VFX and other emerging content segments as part of its strategy to build new growth engines and capture a larger share of the evolving media and entertainment landscape, the company said in its latest annual report.
Addressing the shareholders, ZEEL CEO Punit Goenka said the media and entertainment sector is being increasingly driven by digital media, gaming, animation and visual effects, prompting ZEEL to diversify its portfolio and expand beyond its traditional businesses.
“The growth is being led by new-age segments such as digital media, gaming, animation and VFX. In order to truly scale your company as a leading content and technology powerhouse, we are building further a more diversified portfolio that reimagines the breadth of our business and captures a higher share of the attention economy,” said Goenka addressing the shareholders of the company.
The company is investing in high-potential segments such as micro dramas, kids’ content and live entertainment, which it believes will become important drivers of future growth.
As part of this strategy, ZEEL has entered into a strategic partnership with Oscar-winning animation and VFX studio PhantomFX to strengthen its content creation capabilities in genres such as kids, mythology and fantasy.
“We believe the partnership will enable your company to create richer intellectual properties in the animated content segment that is witnessing exponential growth across the Nation,” he said.
The broadcaster has also expanded its presence in sports through the launch of four dedicated sports channels under the Unite8 Sports umbrella.
“Our aim is to build a sustainable sports ecosystem across the Nation, by driving higher engagement through marquee properties and uplifting sports through purposeful on-ground initiatives,” said Goenka.
ZEEL has secured rights to several international sporting events, including FIFA competitions, Germany’s Bundesliga and Italy’s Serie A football leagues, expanding its existing sports portfolio.
“Going forward, we firmly believe that these new segments will accelerate growth for your company and complement the overall portfolio to drive stronger cross-synergies,” Goenka said.
He said ZEEL’s digital platform ZEE5 became profitable in FY26, aided by a language-focused content strategy, a stronger content slate and an improved user experience.
On the linear television business, Goenka said the company’s network share rose 60 basis points during the year to 17.4 per cent, aided by gains across Hindi and other language markets, even as the segment navigated a soft advertising environment on reduced spends from key categories.
Subscription revenue growth got partial support from the New Tariff Order (NTO) 3.0, he said.
The company’s omni-channel strategy helped it reach over 800 million monthly unique viewers across the country, Goenka said.
