Halloween: The Game is getting a comic book adaptation

Horror franchise video games have become a regular staple of pop culture in recent years, from Friday the 13th to Alien to Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Now, after several years of waiting and anticipation, the newest addition to this catalog, Halloween: The Game, is nearly upon us. The video game releases on September 8, and there are all kinds of Halloween-related tie-ins going on to help get fans well-and-truly ravenous for that release, including the game’s sponsoring of the theatrical re-release of several of the original films.

But now, a new one, in the form of Halloween: The Game Comic. The comic book run is set to debut in late 2026 and will feature a narrative that ties in with the game itself.

What exactly can a comic book adaptation of a video game adaptation of a classic horror movie have to offer? Well, a lot, actually.

While there have been numerous Halloween sequelsmade over the years, fans of the franchise still have a soft spot for John Carpenter’s original film, and it isn’t hard to see why. The film has persevered through the decades for a reason; it is nothing short of a masterpiece of suspense. To this end, many fans associate the era in which that original film was made as being quintessentially representative of Halloween. And yet, none of the more modern films (outside of a flashback in David Gordon Green’s Halloween Kills) have returned to this era to tell further stories. That’s where Halloween: The Game offers a key bit of wish fulfillment.

Halloween: The Gameis set on Halloween night of 1978, the exact night in which both Halloween and Halloween II take place. And yet, it’s a gaming experience that features legacy characters like Dr. Loomis and Laurie Strode alongside new additions, as it has the chance to further flesh out the town of Haddonfield and its inhabitants. This essentially frees up the game to cultivate a setting, tone, and look very reminiscent of the original film, without having to feel shackled to exclusively recreating onscreen moments. In this same way, Halloween: The Game Comic is essentially just a new comic book run that has the opportunity to riff on a circa 1978 Michael Myers wreaking havoc in Haddonfield.

The glimpses of art that we’ve seen from the comic look great, and the ideas inherent within this approach are full of potential. The first issue releases on November 4, so you can keep the spooky season rolling well past All Hallows’ Eve.
