New Hot Wheels Collectible for 2027 Will Make Every RX

I spend quite a bit of time daydreaming. Sometimes it can be quite organized, almost to the point where you can call it planning. That’s how I ended up writing three different stories on cars I thought would make amazing Hot Wheels collectibles.
  

Between 2023 to 2026, I added 55 names to that list and Mattel actually delivered on some of them. Looking at my line-up from 2023, the Lexus LFA, GMA T.50, Porsche 911 Strassenversion, McMurtry Speirling and Subaru Forester STI all joined the 1/64th scale Universe. My 2025 wishlist wasn’t quite as successful, but some of the models I mentioned in 2026 are on the right path.

I’m talking about the Toyota MR-S: I’ve already shown you a preview of it recently. In hindsight, the Ferrari 288 GTO EVO might have been a huge ask, and I guess we can be happy with just the “regular” GTO for now. As for the Mitsubishi Starion, it’s already joining the Super Treasure Hunt series in 2027! I also included the IMSA GTO-spec, 4-rotor Mazda RX-7 on the wish list.

To be honest, I didn’t expect Mattel would actually follow up on that idea, and I at least hoped one of the premium manufacturers on the market would do something about it. After all, I just got my RE-Amemiya D1GP FD RX-7 from Mini GT recently, and I already had the old A’Pexi FD from Tarmac Works.

Speaking of the latter, rumors have it that the team in El Segundo are working on that project as well: what a time to be alive for rotary fans worldwide! The first two photos of the IMSA GTO FC depict it in its prototype stage, but there’s no doubt as to what the first livery will look like (white and blue!). I just hope they won’t ruin it with a set of Modern Concave Real Riders wheels.

Right now, I’d say there’s a 99% chance this will appear as a Premium collectible, and it will look great next to the other two IMSA GTO machines around (Audi 90 quattro and Nissan 300ZX GTS). You might remember that we only had one new Mazda casting in 2026: the RX-7 that showed up in the Elite 64 series. I was almost furious to see the bodykit, as I prefer the ‘90s and early 2000s kits for the FD.

I wasn’t too happy with the RLC-only FD, or the Pandem FC, which is why you’ll see several other brands in my RX-7 focused unboxing from 2025. With a new second-generation and third-generation line-up coming up, that means there’s only one other thing to ask from Mattel: a modern take on the first-gen RX-7, with a metal base and Real Riders wheels for the best result possible.
