NetEase Games and developer Naked Rain have brought Ananta back into the spotlight. The game was previously known as Project Mugen, and it’s still set up as a free-to-play open-world action RPG for PC, PlayStation 5, and mobile. NetEase Games still hasn’t given it an official release date.
Ananta is set in Nova City, a futuristic spread of neon towers, crowded streets, and supernatural incidents. You step into the shoes of agents from the Anti-Chaos Directorate, and the latest trailers put a lot of emphasis on movement: fast wall-running, grappling, swinging between skyscrapers, and tearing through the city at high speed.
Combat also lets you swap between a squad of four characters. Online, players have been describing Ananta as Grand Theft Auto filtered through a stylish anime look, with paranormal threats in the mix rather than any kind of official crossover. NetEase Games has also said there won’t be character gacha, so cosmetics are expected to do more of the monetization work instead.
If you’re looking for urban freedom, anime flair, and supernatural action without the usual gacha baggage, this already seems like one to keep an eye on when it finally lands. Even so, the strong early reaction to its visuals, style, and movement still has to be backed up by the final game. For now, fans online are pointing to 2026 or 2027, and the next major showing is widely expected at Gamescom 2026 on August 25.
Once NetEase Games confirms a release date, you’ll be able to get Ananta on PC, PlayStation 5, and mobile.
