Grab your sword, Kingdom Hearts is being made into a show on Disney+
In partnership with Tetsuya Nomura and Square Enix, Disney is working on an animated Kingdom Hearts show that will tell an original story

Here’s a sentence I never thought I’d write: there’s going to be a Kingdom Hearts animated TV show coming to Disney+ soon. The title for the show is refreshingly simple, too – Kingdom Hearts: The Series.
The news was announced at Disney’s D23 Expo 2026, and while not much is known about the show itself, we do know that the show is being developed by Tetsuya Nomura and Square Enix, which is a good thing for fans of the games. It will reportedly be an original story set within the lore of the games.
In case you weren’t born in the 20th century, Kingdom Hearts is a game series from Square Enix using Disney characters that essentially puts the House of Mouse’s most iconic characters within the same shared universe. The games are led by an original character named Sora, who wields a Keyblade as a sword.
The first Kingdom Hearts game came out in 2002, which is the same year as the first Raimi Spider-Man movie. So could Disney be cashing in on nostalgia, similar to Spider-Man: No Way Home? We’ll have to wait and see.
No further word on when we can expect to see the show hit Disney+, as the official promo image simply says “Coming Soon.”
