Dark horse just announced Snakes in the Garden: Ed Gray and England’s Last Standa new three-issue miniseries Mike Mignola and Ben Steinbeck back to the end Hellboy Universe A timeline of another story after the end of the world. The first issue will be released on November 27th.
Snake in the garden occurred after the event BPRD: The Devil You Know and Koscei in Hell – and features the return of fan favorite 19th Edward Grey, the mysterious detective of the century.
According to a Dark Horse press release, here’s what we know about the plot:
“Snake in the garden After being summoned from hell by Alice, Queen of the last kingdom on Earth, Gray follows in Grey’s footsteps and helps defend England from King Arthur’s half-sister Morgan le Fay and her fearsome champion.
Mike Mignola talked about the character and teased a little bit about what’s to come:
“Ed Gray took off like a rocket to me. He was my ‘everyman’ mystery detective but then moved on. Being dismembered and stitched up didn’t even slow him down. He became a magician and flew around doing things. He decided to take on some of Hellboy’s curse and everything kept hammering him down and he just kept getting up and before long I just felt bad for him and wanted to give him a quiet place to sit down – and retire in peace. But he has one more thing to do (I hope) before he not only retires, but retires another one of my favorite characters. Let’s hope they both can finally relax after England’s final outing.
Artist Ben Stenbeck has become one of the few luminaries to help Mike Mignola further expand the lore and world. Hellboy. He has participated in previous series witch hunter and Hellboy, and story features Immortal Koshe and Lobster Johnson. In 2022, he collaborated with Mignola to develop Koscei in Hell miniseries, in which the first new story takes place after the chronological end of the Hellboy universe’s timeline – taking place after the world above actually ends in the pages of Hellboy. BPRD: The Devil You KnowApril 2019.
According to Steinbeck, this might have been his last hurray on this earth:
“This will be my last ‘Hellboy Universe’ story for a while – so I’m really happy that I finally get to draw one of my favorite characters.”
