La. (KSLA) – Geek’d Con opened Friday at the Shreveport Convention Center, drawing fans of comics, cosplay and pop culture for the event’s 2026 run
The convention features celebrity appearances alongside opportunities for attendees to connect over shared interests. One event-goer, Zanaya Harris, said the gathering fills a need for community.
“Yes, it’s just a great spot for people who don’t feel like there’s a lot of community — to get together and finally interact with each other, to feel safe and feel good,” Harris said.
Actor Marvin Jones, who played Tombstone in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, said watching attendees in costume is a highlight of the convention.
“You know, really with the costumes and cosplay — seeing how people got creative, how they emulated a certain character they love — I get a joy out of it,” Jones said.
Jones also spoke about his reaction to landing the Tombstone role.
“Honestly, it was kind of emotional for me. I cried. Yea, I cried,” Jones said.
Actor Lochlyn Munro, known for his role in White Chicks, said fan interactions make the experience worthwhile.
“It’s fun to have those interactions with your fan base. They are kind of the whole reason I get to do that for a living,” Munro said.
One attendee said the convention offered a chance to meet actors from childhood favorites.
“I grew up watching White Chicks, Little Man, Jason and Freddy’s — so I like experiencing new things,” the attendee said.
Geek’d Con continues Saturday, starting at 10 a.m. and running until 7 p.m. The event runs through Sunday.
