Felicia Day and Wil Wheaton Are Bringing Game Nights Back With ConLudo

hello world!

I had a plan when I sat down to interview Felicia Day and Wil Wheaton. I had done my research. I had established an outline and flow for a fun conversation about The Guild Reunion Movie Kickstarter and their new tabletop show, ConLudo. I “thought” I shook the nerves out, hit record… and I roared at them.
Yep. I opened the interview with a roar like a professional. Listen, sometimes nervous energy must leave your body before you interview two people who helped shape modern geek culture, ok? Luckily, Day and Wheaton understood the assignment with Wil encouraging “More roaring!”
Quickly following that, Felicia announced, “I am excited to swim in a couch of soup with you,” and all hopes of a normal opening were gone. We debated whether Couch Soup meant soup made from couches or soup eaten on a couch—and whether swimming in chicken noodle required tighty whities with the fear of soup getting places you don’t want it. Wil offered that he is not allowed to eat soup on his own couch and believes every good bowl could be improved by “uncomfortably tight underpants.”
We do not yuck anyone’s yum here at Couch Soup.
Somehow, I had to transition into the actual reason we were talking: ConLudo, a new tabletop series being developed as a stretch goal forThe Guild Reunion Movie Kickstarter.
Welcome to ConLudo
Moving into the questions, Felicia described the idea of ConLudo as an excuse to play board games with Wil again. I get it. The origin of the collaboration was simple:
“Let’s have a big idea and let’s go for it, Wil,” she recalled. “You coming with me?”
He said yes, and now we have a show built around friendship, a passion for games, each other, and all the nonsense we as fans can’t wait to see. The pair will choose a subject, share things they love connected to that theme (for example, movies or podcasts or musical artists); invite friends to the table, then play a game that ties it all together
Felicia called it “the best game night ever in episodic form.”
Wil understands their collaborations become something fun and memorable that audiences continue returning to, and reflects “What an incredible privilege to be trusted by so many people.” He is also a massive fan of The Guild and was very ready for its return. Watching the Kickstarter videos brought him right back to what he loved about the series.
“The videos that you guys have made for the Kickstarter are so goddamn funny,” he told Felicia. “I missed this. I missed what that felt like back then.”
This project also gave the friends an excuse to reunite. After COVID, their schedules left them more like “ships passing in the night”—still texting each other cool discoveries, but rarely sharing the same physical space. That habit of trading books, bands, recipes, podcasts, and other finds is what helped inspire the idea.
“ConLudo means play together in Latin,” Felicia explained. “We did our logo with two hands because really, you know, we’re just offering things to each other, but also the audience, so they can discover something new that will make a difference in their lives. That’s really the heart of the show.”

It Is Not Just About the Game
Wil mentioned he’s a fan of the “really old-school” blogging tradition—the early internet practice of finding something wonderful and immediately telling everyone you knew about it.
“Here’s a website that I like. Here’s a person who writes things that I think are interesting. Here’s some music I love. Have you ever read this book?” he said, remembering how people once shared discoveries online. He misses that version of the internet, and I think a lot of us can relate.
“These days, it’s just so much AI slop, and everything is so algorithmically generated,” he said. “That authentic feeling of a person loving something and going, ‘Man, I really gotta tell you about this’—I miss it so much.”
ConLudo gives them a reason to bring that feeling back and the ability to actually reach their audience the way they want to. However, Wil stressed that ConLudo is not meant to be a repeat of what came before.
“We all loved being part of TableTop, and we’re so incredibly proud of it, but that was about the game,” he said. “This isn’t about the game. This is about our friendship. This is about our conversation while we play a game.”
The game gets everyone to the table; the conversations and ridiculousness keep them there. Wheaton ended each invitation to potential guests with the same promise: “It gives us an excuse to get together and be silly.” It seems as if everyone is extremely down for that.
How Much Game Night Are We Getting?
The dream is ten episodes, depending on how high the Kickstarter climbs, with the possibility of more seasons after a successful launch. Episode length will depend on the games, guests, and final budget. Some games demand more time—and a terrifying amount of editing—but viewers can expect substantial episodes rather than quick clips.
“I would say that they’ll be anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour on average,” Felicia explains “They certainly will not be short, short episodes.”
Backers of the Kickstarter will receive the completed projects digitally. After that, the team wants the show somewhere where viewers worldwide can access easily, though its final home is still undecided. The important part for Felicia is keeping barriers low.
“We’re not here to put up walls,” she said. “We just want to make sure that everybody gets it.”
That approach is part of a bigger creative rebellion. Felicia brought The Guild movie directly to fans instead of trying to convince Hollywood to fund a project it likely would not understand—or would want to own. She explains that previous board-game pitches were met by executives who could not understand why anyone would feature a game they did not own. That wasn’t the point, but lifting up the thing they love in their own way and making it more accessible is the point, even though getting in front of the right audience has only become more challenging. Even creators with established followings can’t count on social platforms to show posts to the people who chose to follow them.
“The algorithms do not want you to connect with what you actually want,” Felicia said. “They want you to connect with what they want you to want.” She remembers when social media helped people find each other and form communities. Today, creators are pushed into narrow lanes based on what a platform thinks it can sell alongside them. “I want to rebel against that,” Felicia said.
With ConLudo, she hopes their reach can introduce viewers to creators, games, and other wonderful things that might otherwise get buried. Wil sees the project as a natural return to the mission that has guided their work for years. Before, they wanted to put more gamers into the world. Now, they can bring those gamers back around and remind them why we play in the first place.
“Remember why we play games?” he asked. “Remember why we get together?”
The secret sauce between the two of them is also to bring something a studio cannot manufacture: decades of experience building geek entertainment with an audience. “No one knows how to make The Guild better than Felicia,” Wil said.

Will there be Audience Participation?
Since community is so important to the project, I wanted to know whether backers might get to choose games, change rules, or decide who goes first. Short answer: not exactly.
Felicia loves hearing what viewers enjoy, but she also knows what kind of show she wants to make. Wil compared handing over every creative decision to attending a concert and asking the audience to choose every song and determine the set order.
“That’s gonna get real messy real fast,” he said.
Fair.
That does not leave the community outside the game room. Felicia has asked fans for recommendations, polled backers about add-ons, and released delightfully goofy rewards – i.e. cast voicemails. She also loves the Twitch stream where fans watch The Guild and her other work together. That smaller, communal internet is what she aims to replicate in a different way: a place where people meet because of what they enjoy.
“We know what we want to do with our show, but we certainly want the community involved,” Felicia said. “If we get the opportunity to grow this, certainly I want everybody along for the ride.”
Will it be Competitive?
After discussing community, creativity, and the slow algorithmic erosion of the internet, it was time for the most important question of the interview.
Who is more competitive?
“I’m not competitive at all,” Felicia said.
Wil reacted as if she had just lied under oath. “That is the biggest lie you have ever told in your entire life,” he declared. “How dare you with your human mouth?” He called Felicia the most competitive gamer he has ever played with and said she would “stab you in the face” for one extra point, whether the points mattered or not.
To be fair, at least it would be in the face and not the back.
Felicia modified her answer. Yes, she wants to win. No, she is not mad when she loses. Wil agreed that she is a gracious loser before revealing the true problem.

“She’s the worst winner you’ve ever been around.”
“I am intolerable,” Day admitted before demonstrating a celebratory dance involving a little football, a little Macarena, and a dangerous amount of elbows. Question answered.
Favorite Game Types
When it comes to favorite games, Wil believes the best one may simply be the game you play most—the one with the least friction between asking, “Do you want to play?” and everyone sitting at the table. His family has loved Sushi Go! for years, but his current obsession is Flip 7, a push-your-luck card game his son Nolan brought to the family. It was introduced by saying it was a stupid game, should not be fun, and would become the greatest family game they had ever played. Bold words, sir. He was also right.
“It is the most fun I have had playing a board game with anybody in literal years,” Wil said. “It’s so much more fun than it deserves to be.” For someone who loves rer a simple card game was unexpected. But Flip 7 won him over completely
Felicia also loves ree Lords of Waterdeep and Agricola. “Give me a sheep, give me anything,” she said
Her love of limited reollars pledged during the campaign, she pointed out that the reunion movie’s budget remains smaller than what Hollywood might spend on a 20-minute sitcom
“I’m re make it for half if I have to.” She connected that instinct to her math degree: solving a theorem means working with a defined set of building blocks, much like a good re is just re

Are You In?
My final question was for anyone still on the fence about supporting the campaign. What would the two of them want that person to know?
Wil didn’t think the fence had much room on it.
“Either you’re in or you’re out,” he said. “We’re a very known quantity.”
Do you want to watch them play games? Do you want a The Guild movie? Do you want to see Felicia make her dream project? If yes, they would love for you to join them. If you already backed it, Wil offered a heartfelt thank you. If you did not, he still hopes the finished show brings a little happiness into your life.
“Whether you back us or not, you’ll be able to watch us,” he said. “And if you do watch us, I hope that it puts joy in your life, and I hope it inspires you to play more games.”
At the time of our conversation, the Kickstarter had raised approximately $4.5 million. Felica said the team was aiming to surpass the then-record for a movie project on Kickstarter, which she placed at $5.71 million. Every backer, she emphasized, helps. And if supporting creator-owned geeky goodness is not enough, allow me to present one final argument: the campaign includes a limited card pack featuring 100 celebrities, including an outrageously beefy version of Wil as Fawkes.
“I am so beefy in my card picture,” Wheaton said, insisting that it looked exactly like him in real life. The camera told a different story, but he blamed that on a “skinny middle-aged nerd filter” concealing his massive arms. Oh, the technological advances we have made.
Felicia closed with a thankyou to the fans who have allowed her to keep creating for nearly 20 years. The Guild helped prove that creators did not need permission to make something wonderfully weird. Now, its reunion is creating room for another project built with that same independent spirit. ConLudo is Latin for “play together,” but it could just as easily mean “call your friends, pull up a chair, and get a little ridiculous.” The game matters, sure. Winning matters quite a lot if you are Felicia Day. But the people around the table are the reason to keep playing.
I had an absolute blast interviewing these two incredible humans, and I want to extend my deepest gratitude for their time and goofiness. Let’s support their creativity which will lend its way to our living rooms!
SupportThe Guild Reunion Movie Kickstarter, help bring ConLudo to the table, and—in Wheaton’s words—“play more games.”

I want to believe in Carter’s Directors Cut of The X-Files 2008 Film
I think most people can agree that the 2008 X-Files film “I Want to Believe” was a bit of a disappointment. And now, because we are in an age where Director’s Cuts are able to happen 18 years after the film, we are able to see Chris Carter’s definitive version of the film. This time, […]

EA Purchased by Saudi Arabia’s PIF – Mass Layoffs Await
This flipping sucks. EA is now in more debt than it was before the purchase, layoffs are expected, and you’ve gotta think that Bioware is under threat. Ready for “Leveraging AI” and “Steamlining Workflows” to be used in a future announcement. EA was bad before. Now what?
