In May of this year, a lawsuit concerning defamation against Roa Yumetsuki, a VTuber belonging to Nijisanji, was settled through a settlement at the District Tokyo Court. Yumetsuki’s lawyer, Ozawa Kazuhito, reported the details on social media.

The incident began with three videos posted by VTuber Sai Narukami between October and November 2020. The wording in the videos and their titles overlapped with that of Yumetsuki’s character, and the lawsuit alleged that these videos contained content that could be interpreted as Yumetsuki pressuring another VTuber, Meiro Kingyozaka, who was in the same group at the time, to retire.

Following the posting of a video, criticism and slander against Yumetsuki spread, leading her to suspend her main activities, such as live streaming, for about six years. Subsequently, it was reported that she was involved in legal proceedings, and this time the results of those proceedings have been made public.

The settlement agreement includes an apology from Narukami to Yumetsuki for broadcasting a video that was inadvertently based on information provided by other VTubers, resulting in a video that was contrary to the facts. It also confirms that Yumetsuki did not attempt to force Meiro Kingyozaka into retirement.

According to Ozawa, court rulings only consider requirements such as infringement of rights and intent or negligence, and the background circumstances are not necessarily clarified. On the other hand, settlements can incorporate a wide range of the terms agreed upon by the parties. Based on this point, Yumetsuki explained that they chose to settle from the perspective of restoring their reputation.

Yumetsuki herself also shared her feelings on social media, commenting, “I chose to reconcile so that people could at least understand what happened to me.”

I can’t provide proof that I didn’t do something I didn’t do, so I’ve wasted so much time.

Now I know everything about why this happened to me and what was going on behind the scenes, and I can explain it all.

I chose to settle so that at least a little bit of what happened to me could be understood. https://t.co/BHFkmXDBpU

The trial with Roa Yumetsuki has ended.

Since the settlement was reached at the end of May this year,

we have been waiting for a statement from the other party until today.

Therefore, I cannot give a detailed explanation at this time,

so for now I will just give you the main points. …
