The Peabody-winning podcast from 2023 was hosted by Susan Burton, and detailed the true story of how a nurse at a Yale University fertility clinic replaced fentanyl intended for patients undergoing egg retrievals with saline, leaving dozens of women to suffer the painful procedure without any anesthesia. When the women complained of the pain, they were ignored.
Netflix announced on Thursday that the podcast is being adapted into a series of the same name, with Maid creator Molly Smith Metzler writing and executive producing. Emilia Jones (Task) will star as the fictional Gabby Clemente, one of the victims who underwent a traumatic egg retrieval surgery. Gabby discovers that a nurse has been stealing fentanyl, and embarks on a groundbreaking legal crusade against Yale University.
