As the plot develops, Yusuke is allowed to be resurrected, but it comes with a price: he has to become a Spirit Detective and help investigate supernatural occurrences.
The first season, consisting of 5 episodes, aired on December 14, 2023, and adapted the first 110 chapters of the original manga series by controversially condensing storylines, merging them, and ignoring them outright.

According to Netflix Japan’s Vice President of Content, Kaata Sakamoto, in an interviewwith Hyper Beast, the “five-episode Yu Yu Hakusho live-action series took almost five years to complete — from two years of pre-production, over 10 months of shooting, and another two years for post-production.” Fans are hopeful that the series second season won’t take as long to return to their screens.
