Vermeil in Gold author Kota Amana, in a statement published on their manga’s X/Twitter account, said that Umezu’s death caught them off guard and commented that the artist’s gentle personality could be felt through their manuscripts.
Vermeil in Gold began serialization in 2018 and has 11 volumes as of June 2026. The ecchi manga, which sees a struggling young magician unwittingly getting the titular demon Vermeil as his familiar, inspired a TV anime that aired in 2022. Manga UP! Global and Comikey have the manga in English.
