Welcome to your weekly breakdown of the biggest hits, misses, and viewership trends on Netflix. In this week’s report, we’re diving into the global top 10 data for the week of August 3rd to August 9th, 2026. It’s a busy week on the charts, featuring a solid debut for the viral thriller The Last House, the season 3 return of the YA juggernaut My Life with the Walter Boys, and the continued true-crime dominance of The Idaho Murders: College Nightmare. We’ll also be tracking the sharp decay of Kevin Hart’s 72 Hours, checking in on Ricky Gervais’ animated series Alley Cats, and seeing how I Will Find You is pacing against Netflix’s all-time heavyweights. But before we get into the brand-new Originals, let’s touch on the continued power of licensed blockbusters.

Last week, you may recall we spoke about the Spider-Man bumps we’d been seeing across the top 10s following Brand New Day, and that continues this week with Far From Home and Homecoming having strong showings given they’re licensed in most regions around the world. Sony Pictures not having their own streaming service to feed means they get full creative license to use their back catalog as a major marketing weapon, and they’re doing that and then some here.

A few no-shows to start off with: The Ribbon Hero, the anime movie, launched on Saturday and didn’t do enough to get into the top 10s, perhaps unsurprisingly. Also no-shows for Let’s Marry Harry, Big Chicken: A Fast Food Conspiracy, and, shockingly, One Hundred Years of Solitude, which did spend 4 weeks in the top 10s. The latest seasons of 1670and Death Inc. also didn’t show up.

Let’s start with the weekly ranks, which compare the view count back to July 2021 to see whether this was a weak week or a strong week:

    • English TV – 41,200,000 views (Rank 115 of 164 weeks)
    • English Film – 67,200,000 (Rank 110 of 164 weeks)
    • Non-English TV – 27,200,000 (Rank 90 of 164 weeks)
    • Non-English Film – 25,600,000 (Rank 113 of 164 weeks)

The Last House Debuts Just Below The Highest Performers

Aided by its intriguing premise and a stunt that got quite a lot of attention (including my brother even sending me a clip from a bystander on TikTok), The Last House has the fifth-best Friday movie launch of the year behind the biggest hitters The Rip, War Machine, Apex, and Thrash by about 10 million views but ahead of the Peaky Blinders movie. Of course, all those movies above it were in-your-face action movies, so this feels about right.

How about movies from yesteryear in similar genres? Not as great:

Why My Life with the Walter Boys Got and Will Keep Getting Early Renewal Orders

With a season 4 renewal under its belt and already in production, we have a pretty good idea why Netflix feels confident ordering more seasons. Season 3 debuts very strongly with 71M viewing hours and 9M views. That’s down from the 11.8M that season got, but the runtime was a bit shorter, which aided the views metric. Whatever way you cut it, though, a 23% decline in views is incredibly steep decay, meaning we suspect season 5 will already be in the works by the time next summer rolls around.

The Idaho Murders: College Nightmare in Week 2

The Idaho Murders College Nightmare Netflix Doc Review

The only show that My Life With the Walter Boys couldn’t topple is Skye Borgman’s latest entry, which had a huge debut last week and continued the momentum this week. It saw a 42% drop in viewing hours, but thanks to its strong debut, it still stands tall at the top of the charts.

    72 Hoursin Week 3

Kevin Hart’s 72 Hours opened pretty well, but has quickly fallen into a similar decay we’ve seen across his prior movies and many other movies in the comedy space in recent years. As of right now, 72 Hours is sitting at 58.3M views, which is far below his prior movies Lift and Me Time.

Ricky Gervais’ Alley Cats Gets a Spot in the Top 10s with Some Asterisks

As someone who quite liked the show but was clear that I was in the minority, I was curious whether Ricky Gervais’s provocative marketing campaign, which promoted a show I don’t recognize as the one I watched, would do the job. I covered earlier in the week how much of its performance had been concentrated in a handful of regions, and the numbers bear that out.

The animated series space has been pretty dry this year, but it has finally seen a title enter the weekly top 10s, with Strip Law, Long Story Short, and Mating Season unable to do so. To that extent, it’s a success for the show, albeit its very short runtime definitely helps it here. A renewal? Who knows! Animation is a weird one with Netflix, but I suspect they’ll keep Gervais sweet one way or another.

Badly in Love Back with a Bang in Season 2

The Japanese reality series Badly in Love has returned to Netflix and doubled its viewership, which is mighty impressive, given that its runtime was nearly 30 minutes longer. A massive success in the space. Keep an eye on this IP as it seems ripe for an international transplant.

    Spooky in Love Debuts Low

A new Friday means a new K-drama drop, and this week it’s the full release of Spooky in Love. Sadly, it’s not a great start, with just 1.7M views in its opening three days. That places it amongst the lowest of the recent debuts from the past year or so.

Operation Safed Sagar: The Highest Air Force Mission

It hasn’t been a good year on the TV front for Netflix India, even if their movie slate has performed quite a bit better. This week, Operation Safed Sagar: The Highest Air Force Mission did manage to enter the top 10s, so let’s stack it up against other series that have gotten in the top 10s, starting with Manadla Murders, which we have to go back to July 2025 for a Friday release.

I Will Find You Aiming for Netflix All-Time Top 5

Harlan Coben’s US adaptation keeps on going, and this week officially overtakes DAHMER on the trajectory, firmly giving it a shot at #5 in the all-time top 10 list. Sadly, all we’ve got to compare against in this range are split releases, which are notoriously difficult to map out. That said, we can see that Adolescence is probably out of range, meaning we suspect #5 is infinitely doable.
