After all, the Vampire Diariesactress debuted a head-turning blonde hair transformation while shooting It Happened One Summer in New York, contrasting her signature brunette look.
In videos shared to social media, Dobrev sported blonde, voluminous curls as she walked down a sidewalk in a red, halter top dress. The 37-year-old first shared a glimpse at her new ‘do a week earlier while confirming that filming for theTessa Bailey novel adaptation had begun.
While sporting a grand sun hat, Dobrev’s new blonde curls could be seen peeking out from underneath as she held up a clapper stick alongside costar Virgina Gardner in an Instagram Aug. 3 post. Alongside the sweet photo, Dobrev teased, “Filming has officially begun.”
In the film, Dobrev plays Los Angeles-based influencer Piper Bellinger who is exiled to to the Pacific Northwest, where she crosses paths with broody sea captain Brendan Taggart (Tyler Hoechlin). Ahead of filming, author Bailey teased what fans can expect from the upcoming movie.
“It’s really happening,” Bailey teased to E! News in a June interview. “I’m like—it seems surreal that they’re like, ‘Here’s the dates for filming, and you’re welcome to come to set,’ and I’m like, ‘Really?'”
And the novelist emphasized that she couldn’t think of anyone better than Dobrev and Hoechlin to bring the beloved BookTok couple to life.
“I think they’re both such talented actors, and they’re both really funny,” Bailey mused. “So, I’m really excited to see the spin they put on Piper and Brendan. I think they’re going to kill it.”

With the usually-brunette Dobrev now fully transformed into Piper, Bailey’s vision of her bringing the character to life also seems all the more within reach.
“There’s the moments where Piper is vulnerable with Brendan, I think are the ones I most care about,” Bailey added. “Because she’s never really let her let herself kind of shine through in front of a romantic partner, or maybe even anybody besides her sister.”
As she put it, “It’s just a hard thing for her to do, to say, ‘I don’t know who I am outside of this party image, and I don’t know where I belong.’ And then him sort of responding to that—I just like can’t wait to see that play out.”
