It’s been an up-and-down year so far for Netflix in 2026. We’ve seen some incredible new shows soar onto the all-time Netflix Top 10, like His and Hers and Harlan Coben’sI Will Find You. We’ve also seen a few Netflix shows that failed to live up to the hype and were canceled, including The Boroughs.
Then, there’s everything in between! Most of Netflix’s shows have fallen in that middle ground, which has resulted in some of those shows on the chopping block as summer winds down.
I shared the four Netflix shows that are in danger of getting canceled this year, starting with the most recent new releases and working my way back. I also shared some predictions about what I think will happen with each series.
Ransom Canyon
After an incredible first season in the spring of 2025, Ransom Canyon seemed like it was one of the biggest shows returning this summer. The second season premiered on Netflix on July 23, and it’s been a little bit of a lackluster start.
The Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly series opened its season 2 premiere week with 4.1 million views. In the second week, that number jumped to 5.5 million, but that’s probably pretty close to the chopping block.
Overall, I still think Ransom Canyon will pick up a renewal because it has an excellent cast, westerns are still in right now, and it fills that romantic drama genre that Netflix needs to check based on how many of their subscribers are interested in those shows. Season 3 is going to get started soon; I can feel it.

The Hawk
Will Ferrell’s new Netflix comedy series, The Hawk, premiered one week before Ransom Canyonon Thursday, July 16. It, too, has had an interesting journey so far.
The Hawk tells the story of a legendary golfer, Lonnie Hawkins, who throws his visor back on the course for one last win. It opened with a good debut weekend and racked up 4.8 million views. In its second week, it jumped all the way to 6.2 million, but in week 3, it completely dropped off with under 3 million views. It’s still on the Netflix Top 10 for the week; it’s just way down in the eighth spot.
Those first numbers are good enough to pick up a renewal, but it’s dropping more quickly than I expected. It’s basically a coin flip right now for if we’ll see the show return for season 2. Even Ferrell might not be able to save this show.

Sweet Magnolias
Sweet Magnolias is one of the longest-running Netflix shows of the last few years. The fifth season of the romantic drama premiered on June 11, 2026, after a long break between seasons.
Unfortunately, Sweet Magnolias season 5 just didn’t make the splash that we were hoping for. I would say that the series was a borderline renewal after season 4. It could have gone either way, but now, I’m very worried this might be the end of the line for the series starring JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Brooke Elliott, and Heather Headley.
The fifth season only racked up 2.8 million views and 3.5 million views, respectively, in its first two weeks after release. It stayed on the Netflix Top 10 for three weeks, but it never really broke through.
I would be so surprised if Sweet Magnoliasis renewed for season 6. It’s such a bummer, and it’s such a promising program that helps cut down the gap between Netflix’s bigger romantic shows. It’s just not getting the viewership needed at the moment.
Man on Fire
Man on Firestarring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II was a big hit on Netflix in April and May. In fact, it ranked no. 8 on the Netflix Top 10 TV shows for the first six months of the year. It’s not I Will Find You successful, but for a Netflix action series, it’s definitely one of the biggest that we’ve seen in quite some time.
Out of the gate, though, the renewal looked complicated. Abdul-Mateen II also starred in Marvel’s Wonder Man, which premiered earlier this year and was renewed for season 2. The timing was the thing that I was most concerned about. Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on how you look at it, Wonder Man was canceled out of nowhere.
Ultimately, that should open up the schedule for Man on Fire. I would argue a second season is definitely necessary, and I think Netflix will definitely be interested in picking up the second season soon now that Wonder Manhas been canceled.
If Netflix cancelsMan on Fire, they are fools. This is easily one of the best TV shows of the year so far.
Netflix doesn’t cancel a lot of shows very often, so there’s a good chance that we could see three of these shows renewed. The Hawkis the one I could see getting picked up because of Ferrell, but it’s ratings weren’t great.
Man on Fire andRansom Canyon should be picked up. I don’t see why Netflix wouldn’t give those shows another crack at it. Of the bunch, Sweet Magnolias is the one that’s probably going to be canceled given the low ratings and lack of enthusiasm about the season.
