I used to go to the Caption Small Press & Comics Festival in Oxford back in the nineties and noughties. It went away for a bit, but came back last year. And this year, not only do I get to go (tomorrow, it’s this weekend!), but they’ve made me a guest. Their choice of a pirate theme for this year seems increasingly appropriate.
It’s taking place in Oxford at Seacourt Hall (which is more like Botley) over the weekend. Guests also include the far more worthy Hannah Berry, Karrie Fransman, Kieron Gillen, Scarlett & Sophie Rickard, and Myfanwy Tristram, creators spotlighted (to watch) by Broken Frontier Yu-Ching Chiu, Daisy Crouch, Francis Todd, Shri Gunasekara and Jua O’Kane. And then Comic News Guests, Broken Frontier’s Andy Oliver, Lydia Turner and me. There are panels, comics, quizzes from Tony Hitchman, comics, a Caption T-shirt by Sean Azzopardi, and more comics.
Anyway, I will be setting up a few articles to run over the weekend, as I’m not entirely sure about the Wifi situation at my Airbnb. But expect plenty of Caption coverage alongside the San Diego Comic-Con content I am still also ploughing through. I will also be able to give comp copies of the Count Binface comic to six of its creators attending the show. This weekend I will be SelfMadeHero‘s Deliveroo.
