News from DC and Marvel
- Big changes are afoot at Marvel: Stephen Wacker has been named editor-in-chief. In addition, Marvel Comics–whose characters are uniquely linked to the company’s historic home in New York City–is packing up and moving to Burbank, California. The move comes just over a decade after Marvel’s main rival in comicdom, DC, also abandoned the Big Apple for California.
- The merger between Warner Bros Discovery, which owns DC Comics, and Paramount has been put on temporary hold as multiple states sue to stop what they view as a monopolistic threat to the <a href="https://comicvibe.com/optimystix-entertainment-ipo-subscription-status/” title=”Optimystix Entertainment IPO Subscription Status”>entertainment industry. The deal has raised alarm bells with many in the industry, including superhero alumni Benedict Cumberbatch, Benedict Wong, and Alan Cumming, who have asked the British government to block it.
- Spider-Man: Brand New Day hit theaters to much excitement and acclaim.
- Jared Leto, who formerly played the Joker, now faces even more accusations of sexual assault, up to and including statutory rape. Leto denies all of the accusations.
- Upon the release of his much-talked-about adaptation of The Odyssey, director Christopher Nolan stated that the haters he’s encountered during this project have nothing on Batman fans. (This was published before the now-infamous Emily Wilson review.)
- Still waiting on Beyond the Spider-Verse? Well, you’ll have to keep waiting a little longer, but with the amount of effort going into it, it should be worth it.
- You will also have to wait on Batman Part II, which has been pushed back to February 2028.
- What you can watch right now, if you haven’t already, are the Avengers: Doomsday trailer and the Clayface trailer.
- On a related note, Entertainment Weekly published an exclusive interview with Tom Rhys Harries, star of the upcoming movie Clayface.
