The comedian announced that his shows from Monday to Thursday would instead be held at the Underground Comedy Club in Koramangala.
In a post on X, Kunal Kamra said tickets bought for the Whitefield shows would be refunded <a href="https://comicvibe.com/review-the-story-of-an-f1-legend-through-a-multiplayer-vr-experience-2/” title=”Review: The story of an F1 legend through a multiplayer VR experience”>through BookMyShow. He also asked people who still wanted to attend to purchase fresh tickets for the new venue.
The change came after Kamra visited the Whitefield police station on Sunday. According to a senior police officer, he personally informed the authorities that he had decided to cancel the Whitefield event.
Police confirm decision
A senior police officer said Kamra came to the police station and told them that he would not go ahead with the event because of opposition from Hindutva activists.
The police did not say that the comedian had been barred from performing. The decision to move the shows was taken amid concerns surrounding the opposition to his Whitefield performance.
Group had sought cancellation
The latest development follows a petition submitted to Bengaluru Police by the Hindu Rashtra Samanvaya Samiti.
The group had asked the police to cancel Kamra’s August 3 performance at URU Whitefield. It raised concerns about maintaining law and order and protecting religious harmony.
The group also alleged that Kamra had disrespected Hindu deities.
For now, the comedian’s Bengaluru shows are going to continue at the Koramangala venue. The Whitefield tickets being refunded and new tickets available for the shifted performances.
