This year’s rumoured LEGO PlayStation set has a new release date – and will apparently arrive alongside an Astro Bot gift-with-purchase.
72306 PlayStation 1 was first rumoured back in March alongside a Mario arcade machine, which has now materialised as 72051 Donkey Kong Arcade. The buildable Sony console was initially reported to have a December 2026 release date, but BrickTap now claims it will actually launch on October 1.
The price tag and piece count remain the same – $159.99 for 1,911 parts – while 72306 PlayStation (the latest set name drops the ‘1’) is now expected to be accompanied by 40899 Astro Bot, which will presumably be based on Team Asobi’s incredibly successful title Astro Bot. It’s the highest-rated game of 2024 on Metacritic and has won the most awards of any platformer to date.
Despite being Astro Bot’s first wide-release game, it’s actually the fifth entry in the series. Three of its predecessors are essentially demos for various PlayStation tech (PSVR, PlayStation Camera, DualSense and so on), while the only other full title – Astro Bot Rescue Mission – was exclusive to the first generation of PlayStation VR.
There’s no word on what 40899 Astro Bot might consist of, or even how many pieces it has, but a brick-built version of Astro would be pretty cool – as would a slice of a level from the game with a tiny Astro minifigure. We’re firmly in speculation territory here, but October isn’t far away now…
In any case, remember to take all LEGO rumours with a grain of salt until we get official confirmation from the LEGO Group.
