OnePlus has confirmed that the OnePlus 16 is on the way, with a China launch in the second half of this year, and the first details to emerge are all about gaming rather than the usual camera or battery talking points.
Speaking at the Snapdragon Gaming Technology Awards 2026 on Thursday, OnePlus China General Manager Liu Baoyou said the phone will arrive with three exclusive gaming technologies, named the Wind Chaser Gaming Core, High Refresh Rate, and E-Sports Triple Chip.
The company is promising meaningful performance gains over the current model on the back of these, though it has not yet explained what the individual pieces actually do. The display will go up to a 165Hz refresh rate, which is the same ceiling as the OnePlus 15, and OnePlus says select titles will run at up to 165fps.
The chipset has only been described as a Snapdragon SoC so far, with no generation mentioned, although an earlier leak pointed to an octa-core Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, along with a 9,000mAh battery and a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto with up to 3x optical zoom.
For context, the OnePlus 15 runs Qualcomm’s 3nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 with an Adreno 840 GPU, plus a G2 Wi-Fi chip and a dedicated Touch Response chip, so the E-Sports Triple Chip label may simply be OnePlus giving that existing silicon stack a marketing name.
The more interesting bit is the design. A marketing poster reported by Gizmochina suggests OnePlus is walking back the square camera island it adopted last year and returning to the circular module familiar from the OnePlus 13 and earlier phones.
What is genuinely unexpected in that image is the camera count, because it appears to show a dual rear setup rather than the triple arrangement OnePlus has stuck with for years. That would be an unusual move for a flagship, and if it holds up, the obvious question is which lens gets dropped and whether the 200-megapixel periscope in the leaks survives the cut.
On timing, the OnePlus 15 (Review) reached China first and landed in India in November, several weeks later, so Indian buyers should expect a similar gap this time rather than a simultaneous rollout.
