Makoto Shinkai’s Your Name is still one of the most beloved animated movies to date, with its beautiful visuals, heart-warming plot, and amazing soundtrack. The legendary film was released about 10 years ago, but it still manages to draw people in. And people increasingly wait for it to return to screens. Amid all this anticipation, fans are bound to ask how to watch Your Name.

With the film’s long-awaited return to theaters now, the audience has several ways to revisit the beloved anime before its 4K comeback.

Streaming and theatrical release plans for Your Name explored

Nearly a decade after its original release, Makoto Shinkai’s critically acclaimed anime film Your Name is officially returning to North American theaters with a newly remastered 4K release on August 14, 2026. Many consider it one of the best anime films ever made, and the romantic fantasy continues to attract new audiences around the world. Fans can catch it on Crunchyroll, Prime Video Channels, or even with a YouTube subscription before the film returns to theaters, making it easy to re-watch this beloved film before it hits the big screen again.

Crunchyroll subscriptions start at $9.99 a month in the U.S., with premium tiers reaching $17.99. New users also get a 7-day free trial. The fans will also need a subscription to Amazon Prime Video if they are watching through Prime Video Channels. It is a standalone service that starts at $8.99 per month, but they can also get it as part of a full Amazon Prime membership, which costs $14.99 per month or $139 per year.

Meanwhile, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the film, Your Name will return to North American theaters in a brand new 4K remaster distributed by GKIDS. Fans will be able to enjoy the celebrated anime in Japanese audio with English subtitles as well as in an English dubbed version. The remastered edition will be released on home media in 4K UHD Steelbook and Blu-ray on August 25

Whether watching it for the first time or revisiting it ahead of the re-release, the film’s heartfelt story remains the biggest reason behind its enduring popularity.

What is Your Name about? Plot and ending explained

Your Name is the story of mysterious body-swapping between Mitsuha Miyamizu, a girl who lives in the rural town of Itomori, and Taki Tachibana, a high school student in Tokyo, who have never met each other. They share experiences, become emotionally bonded, and navigate each other’s lives. Later, they discover they are three years apart in time, and Taki must prevent a comet disaster. Their memories fade slowly, but destiny brings them together again for an emotional and unforgettable ending.

One of the most defining accomplishments of modern anime, Your Name continues to connect with viewers with its emotional narrative and beautiful visuals nearly a decade after its release. The upcoming 4K theatrical re-release allows long-time fans to see the film back on the big screen again, and introduces it to a new generation. As it celebrates its lasting legacy, Makoto Shinkai’s masterpiece is more accessible than ever with multiple streaming options and an upcoming home media release.
