Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, the next game from The Last of Us studio, Naughty Dog, is still on track to be released in 2027, claims an insider.
The next game from Naughty Dog, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, was announced at The Game Awards in 2024; however, since that time, at least officially, we’ve not seen or learned more about the upcoming game.
What’s more, the reveal trailer had very little in terms of gameplay and was primarily in-game cinematics. So, it’s fair to say that fans are very keen to see more of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and when it will be released, especially as news on The Last of US Part 3and Uncharted 5 is as dry as a sandpapered crotch in the Sahara Desert.
Insider claims Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is on track for 2027
When an X user asked NateTheHate2 regarding the rumours of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet being released in 2028, now that the God of War Laufey release date has been confirmed for February 2026, he replied: “2027 is the intended target.” This places it before PlayStation’s physical media death date, thankfully.
It’s worth considering that at this time, neither Sony nor Naughty Dog has revealed a release date for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, or a release window for that matter. So we should take unconfirmed rumours with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise. The only thing we know for sure is that it will be released on PlayStation 5.
What is Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet about?
“Intergalactic stars our newest protagonist, Jordan A. Mun, a dangerous bounty hunter who ends up stranded on Sempiria – a distant planet whose communication with the outside universe went dark hundreds of years ago,” reads a post on the Naughty Dog website following its announcement.
“In fact, anyone who’s flown to it hoping to unravel its mysterious past was never heard from again. Jordan will have to use all her skills and wits if she hopes to be the first person in over 600 years to leave its orbit.”
Where is The Last of Us Part III and Uncharted 5?
That is the golden question. So far, the existence or pending arrival of The Last of Us Part III hasn’t been confirmed by Sony or Naughty Dog. The best we’ve had is a tease from the studio’s head honcho, Neil Druckmann, who hinted that it could be developed if it does the previous two games justice.
Without giving too much away, while The Last of Us Part III wrapped up some story beats, the adventures of Ellie and Abby still feel somewhat unresolved. So it does feel that a third game would be a natural conclusion to a potential trilogy.
What’s more, as much as fans would love to see The Last of Us Part III, fans of Naughty Dog’s other major series, Uncharted, have been waiting much longer for the next adventures of Nathan Drake and friends. Not taking into account a remaster and spin-off, the last mainline entry in this series is Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End on PlayStation 4 in 2016.
The fact that the last proper Uncharted game was a decade ago, and it looks like the PlayStation 5 will be the only console generation not to have a new entry since the series inception in 2007 on PS3, feels like an absolute crime in gaming.
