(Gray News) — Actor William Shatner revealed that he and his youngest daughter both battled stage 4 cancer at the same time.

Shatner, 95, and Melanie Shatner Gretsch, 61, are both now cancer-free.

The two detailed their cancer journeys in a recent <a href="https://comicvibe.com/interview-hasbros-star-wars-team-discusses-new-reveals-at-san-diego-comic/” title=”Interview: Hasbro's Star Wars Team Discusses New Reveals at San Diego Comic”>interview with People.

Shatner Gretsch fought stage 4 metastatic breast cancer while her famous father battled stage 4 malignant melanoma that spread to his lungs and brain.

Shatner Gretsch told People she worried about losing her father, saying she did not have the strength to grieve his loss and battle her own illness at the same time.

In all, Shatner Gretsch underwent multiple rounds of chemotherapy, a double mastectomy and 30 radiation treatments.

While Shatner Gretsch was finishing her treatments in June 2023, a lump on Shatner’s cheek sparked concern. His friend, a plastic surgeon, told him to get it checked out.

When it turned out to be cancer, Shatner underwent surgery to remove the tumor. He also underwent two years of immunotherapy to target the cancer in his lungs and brain.

Shatner told People he is now focused on spending as much time with his family as possible.

Shatner said his three daughters, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren now join him for weekly dinners.

On Wednesday, Shatner and Shatner Gretsch are launching a new podcast called “No Time but Now,” in which they will speak with health experts and other cancer survivors.

Shatner is best known for starring as Captain Kirk in the “Star Trek” franchise from 1966 to 1994.
