Smash Drums’ new campaign mode, “God of Drums,” is now available on PlayStation VR2 after being released on Quest in Early Access.
First released in early access for Meta Quest last November, the new Smash Drum campaign mode has arrived on PlayStation VR2 today. Dubbed “God of Drums,” the free campaign update adds over 100 missions, along with new legendary skins for the drummer’s head and drumsticks. Unlike the vast stadiums that feature in the base mode, gameplay takes place in new areas. I said in my review that the career mode was welcome, but this update is a nice surprise for more goal-oriented rhythm players.
Accessible through the main menu’s Arcade mode, players start as low-level beginners through an RPG-style progression system, working their way through a lightning-fast path to becoming a drum god. Depending on the performance of every song played, new missions will be unlocked depending on the number of stars earned. To unlock new levels, players make gestures in the air like a real rock star.
Each mission rotates between Arcade, Fusion, and Classic modes. These styles change the way notes are struck. From the classic drum kit, where you see cymbals and snares arriving from afar, to a more rock band-inspired style where the notes descend into their respective colors to hit the notes at precisely the right time. As suggested by PotamWorks, the new mode should last between 3 and 6 hours.
