Krampus is a demonic creature who is the opposite of St. Nicholas and punishes misbehaving children in exchange for giving small gifts to well-behaved children. When a child loses his Christmas spirit, he is called into town and with the help of the Dark Elf takes the whole family, leaving the one who called him as the only survivor, and hands them a bell with his name on it to keep. The film has become a cult classic, and this year marks its 10th anniversary, but for the first time, a Krampus action figure inspired by the film will be available for sale. The film initially exceeded box office expectations, grossing $61.5 million worldwide on a $15 million budget. In the film, Krampus enlists the help of several dark elves to kidnap humans, going from house to house, leaving the last elf to call him and his family to kidnap them and return to his underground lair. Der Klown is packaged in a window box with an opening flap and has artwork on all sides featuring characters from old works of art from folklore, with artwork that looks like a wooden box. It is also wrapped in shrink wrap, which was not seen in Krampus packaging. The back of the box features Dare Clown in various poses and with interchangeable parts. The inner opening flap displays his image and he is packaged in a window box and plastic tray with accessories for safe storage.
Der Kloon was inspired by his appearance in the 2015 film Krampus, and is based on his attic scene and various scenes from subsequent films. Der Klown is a giant demonic, evil surprise box toy with a centuries-old feel and wooden exterior with painted face and body. The surprise box is at the end, with non-rotating wheels and pictures of Krampus on all sides. It’s an old dark wooden box with great paint and artwork that gives it a vintage look. His body is mostly white with springs on the inside, orange poker dots and white gloves visible. His torso is wearing a dark blue blazer and a striped shirt with three red buttons. Around his neck is a light gray neck ruffle with a sculptural texture.
His head sculpt goes well with the old wooden clown design, a dark red clown hat with a bell, and the face paint is mostly white with orange poker dots on the wash, black eyes, black eyelashes and eyebrows, pink nose and chin. His ears are round and the inside of his earlobes are dark.
His articulation is limited and includes a ball-jointed head, a ball-jointed torso, swivel-hinged shoulders, swivel-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, a front swivel, and a swivel tail.
Dare Clown makes his first appearance in this film, moving very quickly as he captures Jordan and fires at him as his parents run to the attic to save her, his speed being faster than expected given his size.
Der Clown includes three interchangeable mouthpieces: one neutral mouthpiece, one open mouth showing teeth, and one large mouth with interchangeable human feet sticking out. This mouthpiece has a split jaw, which feels nice. A replacement left hand and the handkerchief used to wipe Jordan’s mouth after swallowing them in the story are also included.
This large open mouthpiece requires an interchangeable neck ruffle with a flat front, a protruding chin, a gap large enough for Jordan’s legs to fit inside, and a hole inside the lip to insert the top peg of the leg.
Overall, Der Klown is very similar to the original and I’ve been waiting 10 years for a figure like this inspired by the movie. So this release did not disappoint and was well worth the wait. Every aspect of this figure is incredibly detailed and you can tell that the design team worked harder than ever with this release to give fans the best likeness and accessories possible. Der Klown is a great addition to your horror collection, or at the very least makes for great holiday decor. I’m hoping to see some dark elves in this release, but we’ll have to wait and see.
