One Piece’s “Egghead” storyline brought many changes and revelations to the popular Shonen Jump series, but one aspect that will never be forgotten is the Straw Hat Pirates’ killer space-age costumes. Talented anime cosplayers have faithfully recreated Nami’s dazzling “Egghead” costume.
Japanese news site Mantan Web recently interviewed Nami cosplayers who participated in the Hococos 2024 ~Minamiotsu Street Pedestrian Heaven COSPLAY~ event held in Naka Ward, Nagoya on May 19, 2024. Miki Izuzu, who also goes by the name @/iruchan84 on X (formerly Twitter), transformed into an “egghead” version of Nami at an anime and gaming convention. Like many of the costumes in this One Piece story, Nami’s new costume is a throwback to an artistic interpretation of the 1950s future.

One Piece Nami cosplay perfectly captures the 1950s space age inspired outfit
According to Tsumiki, the thing that needed the most attention was Nami’s boots. “The boots in this version of the costume have a unique shape,” Tsumiki said. “Therefore, we focused on recreating that. They were modified from off-the-shelf boots, but we were particular about the texture and color of the material, and created a futuristic design that matched the worldview of the Egghead arc.”The meticulous attention to detail paid off, and Tsumiki’s Nami was a breathtaking cosplay that embodies the beauty and elegance of a pirate thief.
One Piece’s Eiichiro Oda originally had a different Egghead costume in mind for Nami
Nami’s final “egghead” costume was just one of the many designs series creator Eiichiro Oda had in mind when drafting the current storyline. In July, concept art for Nami’s costume by Oda was released, showing multiple variations of the costume currently seen. Some of these alternate costumes showed less skin than the final product, and one of them gave Nami a cute hoodie with bunny-like ears. Interestingly, Oda can’t seem to hide his love for Nami. His art process when designing the color cover art for One Piece Episode 1121 went from a wholesome group photo to a provocative pin-up of Nami surrounded by mini versions of the cast.
