The Event Horizon universe is about to get even more disturbing.
During San Diego Comic-Con, IDW announced Event Horizon: Pandemonium, the third and final chapter in Christian Ward‘s acclaimed trilogy of comics expanding the world of Paul W.S. Anderson’s 1997 cult classic.
After exploring the horrors of Hell in previous installments, Pandemonium asks an even more unsettling question: What if Heaven exists… and it’s even worse?
“Heaven is worse. Heaven is definitely worse,” Ward teased in an interview with IGN while discussing the new series.
According to Ward, the comic draws inspiration from the Bible’s most unsettling descriptions of angels and God, treating Heaven not as a place of comfort, but as an unknowable, alien realm steeped in cosmic horror.
“If you look at a Biblically accurate description of an angel, it is terrifying,” Ward explained. “I’m treating Heaven as a kind of alien place, a place where humans really shouldn’t be. It’s overwhelmingly cosmic horror.”
That approach feels perfectly at home in the Event Horizon mythos, where humanity’s faster-than-light travel tears open a gateway to a dimension beyond human comprehension. Rather than simply revisiting Hell, Ward is expanding the mythology in a direction that’s arguably even more disturbing.

Event Horizon: Pandemonium is written by Christian Ward with artwork by Hernán González (John Carpenter’s Tales for a Halloween Night) and is set to conclude the trilogy that began with Event Horizon: Dark Descent and continues in the currently running Event Horizon: Inferno.
