Ryan Reynolds crashes San Diego Comic-Con in incognito Deadpool costume – and has shock announcement

Ryan Reynolds surprised fans at the 2026 San Diego Comic-Con by hiding in the audience in a full denim version of his Deadpool costume – a very new take on the Canadian tuxedo!

The 49-year-old Canadian actor has played Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool, in big screen adventures since 2009 – and it seems he will be returning to the role at least once again. On Saturday, comic book movie fans gathered at Comic-Con to learn the latest details of upcoming Marvel films. Later this year, fans of the long-running film series will see major characters come together again to face a dangerous threat in the blockbuster Avengers: Doomsday.

While the film is already known to include characters from various franchises – including Thor, Captain America, the X-Men and more – Ryan’s version of Deadpool may be crowbarred into the bulging line-up. The actor appeared in the audience on Saturday – with his voice quickly recognisable as he was handed a microphone.

Teasing his potential inclusion in the Doomsday movie, he said: “Look around you. Did you bump your head? … I see. So there’s no additional photography, no overages, maybe last-minute additions…?”

Ryan has previously hinted that his turn as Deadpool is far from over. He first played the character in the commercially panned film X-Men Origins: Wolverine – but returned to play the character in the action packed, R Rated film Deadpool in 2016. A sequel to this film followed in 2018, while a further adventure, titled Deadpool & Wolverine, was released in 2024.

The film saw him joined by Hugh Jackman, reprising his role as Logan, aka Wolverine, and racked up more than one billion pounds at the box office.

In April, the Deadpool star announced he was planning more adventures with the character for the big screen. He said in a social media post at the time: “There’s a few really deep cuts that are missing from the movies, I think there’s a few deep cuts missing from some of the comics.

“There’s certainly some stuff that I love that Fabian [Nicieza] wrote that is incredible. Gerry Duggan is a friend and an incredible comic book writer. There’s stuff coming, there eventually will be another Deadpool film.”

The Deadpool actor is not the only Canadian Ryan set to make a splash in future MCU films – as Drive star Ryan Gosling was also unmasked as an upcoming Marvel actor. The 45-year-old star as Ghost Rider in a new standalone movie.

Marvel Studios exec Kevin Feige announced the news at the Comic Con event – with Ryan appearing on stage to the delight of fans. Shawn Levy will helm the project – and he has previously worked on Deadpool & Wolverine and directed Ryan in the upcoming Star Wars: Starfigher.

The director told the crowd: “I’m having the greatest flashback vibes here, because I was here two years ago when we showed Deadpool & Wolverine. I’ll never forget that night, because I was introduced to the greatest fans.”

He continued: “Gosling is the absolute s**t. I say that with tremendous respect. We spent a lot of time last year making Starfighter, and the opportunity as Ryan started talking about this character, I was like, ‘Bro, let’s ride.’ We’ll see you in 2028!”

Hollywood icon Nicolas Cage previously played Ghost Rider in the 2007 film of the same name and the 2011 sequel, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.

While on the small screen, actor Gabriel Luna played the Robbie Reyes version of the character in the Marvel-ABC series Agents of SHIELD. He had been set to reprise the role in a standalone series for the US streaming network Hulu – but the project was abruptly scrapped in 2019.
