The department held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday, offering media a first look inside the 54,283-square-foot facility before it becomes operational.
The new building includes a 20-lane indoor firearms range, a tactical shoot house for scenario-based training, a MILO virtual simulation theater for decision-making and de-escalation exercises, and a defensive tactics room equipped with Axon VR technology.
The facility also includes a multi-purpose training room, updated audio/visual technology, and office space for the department’s Training Division and Criminal Investigations Division.
Port St. Lucie police say the facility was built to support ongoing training needs as the city continues to grow.
The project was designed by ADG Architecture and constructed by HJ High, with specialized equipment and technology provided by partners including Action Target, MILO andWhelen.
Department personnel are expected to begin moving into the facility Saturday, July 25.
The police department says the secure facility will not be open to the public.
