Visit Jersey says the new Bergerac series has raised Jersey’s profile as a visitor destination.

The original TV drama was set in Jersey and ran from 1981 to 1991. The remake, which debuted on U&Drama in February 2025, is now available on BBC iPlayer and is being shown on BBC Two.

The organisation said YouGov research found people who had watched both series were four times more likely to find Jersey appealing and three times more likely to consider visiting the island within the next two years.

Chief executive Tricia Warwick said she was “thrilled that the new series will now reach an even wider audience”.

About 2.4m viewers tuned in last February to watch the premiere of the series made by UKTV.

Warwick said Bergerac and Jersey had an “iconic connection and a strong history with the BBC”.

“The series has already impactfully raised Jersey’s profile as a visitor destination, and this new platform means even more viewers will discover our island’s stunning landscapes and unique locations for themselves,” she said.

“We look forward to warmly welcoming them to Jersey.”

    ‘Support of Islanders’

Episodes one and two of the first series are due to air on BBC Two later at 21:00 and 21:45 BST.

Executive producer Brian Constantine said it was “fantastic” to see Bergerac reaching a wider audience.

“It’s a great position within the BBC schedule and reflects the strength of the series and the hard work of everyone involved,” he said.

“As international sales continue to grow around the world, it’s clear the show is finding audiences well beyond Jersey.”

He added it wouldn’t have been possible without the support of islanders, its government and the tourist board.

Bergerac is also available to watch on the U streaming service and Channel 4.
