The Batmen of the main and Absolute DC Universes are about to come together under one cover. At San Diego Comic Con today DC announced Batman of Two Worlds #1, a new one-shot set for release worldwide as part of the publisher’s annual Batman Day celebration. The special issue, which hits stores on Saturday, September 19th, will feature a set of new, parallel stories starring both the mainline caped crusader and his Absolute counterpart.
Batman of Two Worlds #1 will feature a mainline DCU story from Batman writer Matt Fraction, former Batman & Robin artist Javi Fernández, colorist Tomeu Morey, and letterer Clayton Cowles. The Absolute Batman story will be by series writer Scott Snyder, Batman Universeartist Nick Derington, colorist Frank Martin, and letterer Tom Napolitano. In a post on social media about the one-shot, Snyder said the issue featuries “Two stories, one crime”.
In a statement to press about the one-shot, Fraction and Snyder described taking the opportunity to place the two Batmen next to each other:
“You have two different looks at Batman,” said Matt Fraction. “The moral structures, the ethical structures, the political structures. A chance to put them side by side and see the similarities and differences.”
“This is just such a unique moment,” added Scott Snyder. “The mission was to show what’s special about each interpretation. The two stories are both about Batman’s form of justice.”
Batman of Two Earths #1 will be a rare Saturday new release comic from DC. Outside of events like Free Comic Book Day, nowadays the publisher (and most others) rarely puts out any new single-issue comics outside of the industry-standard Wednesday release date.
Look for Batman of Two Earths #1 to arrive in stores on Batman Day 2026, otherwise known as Saturday, September 19th.
