From the mind of visionary filmmaker Zach Cregger (Weapons, Barbarian) comes a thrilling — and terrifying — reinvention of the Resident Evil franchise. In an all-new story, Resident Evil follows Bryan (Austin Abrams), a medical courier who unwittingly finds himself in an action-packed, non-stop race for survival as one fateful, horrifying night collapses around him in chaos.
Now I have my apprehensions about this upcoming video game adaptation because most of the previous ones were not good at all. While most people are excited because of Creggar’s previous film and his vocal love of the franchise. My closeness to these games has me nitpicking every word he’s said.
Now, from this trailer, it does show a character having to do all the things you have to do in a Resident Evil game, from finding weapons and searching for ammo to seeing typewriters and green herbs. Austin Abrams, who had a standout performance in last year’s Weapons, looks great here as a character who is so clearly over his head.
I’m willing to be open to this film and give it a fair shot, as it looks good even though the events of RE 2 (and technically RE 3) happen over a few warm days in September of 1998. See more of me nitpicking.
