Image Comics has revealed a new Avengelyne series, written by co-creator Rob Liefeld, with art by Daniel Mainé (Vampirella: Dark Reflections). Launching in October, the new take on the 1995 character revolves around a priest, “who is losing his faith, until he encounters the mysterious title angel. However, Avengelyne’s arrival also draws the attention of “wealthy demon lord” Belisle, who seeks to turn her to his cause.

Liefeld says, “Avengelyne is all the way back! Finding a creative partner on par with Daniel Mainé was essential in creating these new adventures. Daniel is blowing me away, a perfect match for our Avenging Angel! As with all my titles, I wait until the right talent manifests and I wouldn’t be doing this without Daniel, his work is certain to impress!”

A fallen angel, Avengelyne was created with Cathy Christian and Tony Lobito, and based on Christian’s appearance. The new book marks the character’s first series since the 2011-12 run by Mark Poulton & Owen Gieni, and comes two years after word broke that a film version was being developed by director Oli Margot Robbie, and screenwriter Tony McNamara (Poor Things) at Warner Bros

In an exclusive at The Hollywood Reporter, Liefeld provided an update on the movie, saying, “I have seen Oliis early.” As for how the new comic compares to McNamara’s script, he says, “My entry point here in the comic book is somewhat different than the entry point to the cinematic version, but they kind of arrive at the same place.”

Issue #1 will be released on October 7, with multiple covers, including a NSFW, polybagged cover B by Liefeld, and a cover F by former Marvel Studios and Avengelyne artist Andy Park, which will be revealed at a later date. You can check out most of the covers below in the meantime. For more from the book, including a preview and additional covers, head to The Hollywood Reporter. A “first look” at the comic will also take place at San Diego Comic-Con, which Liefeld will attend this week. Stay tuned to The Beat for more news from SDCC ’26.
