This year’s TV and film fan fest was the fifth edition to take place in the resort
Hundreds of TV, film and gaming fans have descended on Cleethorpes Leisure Centre this weekend for the colourful Beachside Comic Con convention. Organisers estimate about 1,500 visitors enjoyed the event’s array of screen props, traders, activities and costume-wearing guests.
It was the fifth year of the Beachside Comic Con, which is the work of Amanda Marriott and her husband Peter, who run Luxx Events. The Grimsby-based company is also behind Star Wars-themed Star-Con which takes place in Hull next month.
Amanda hailed it “a fantastic weekend”. She said: “We’ve had lots of people coming through the doors – it’s been such a great atmosphere and vibe with people from all walks of life here.”
Among special guests from TV and film at the event were Carl Newman, a stunt double for Michael Keaton in the 1989 Batman film and came with “fabulous” stories of working with Tim Burton, among others.
Amanda added: “We’ve got Jan Kamar – her first Comic Con in the UK and she has voiced things like Assassins Creed, Star Wars and things like that – and she’s also a pilot as well!
“And then we have Filiz Fairweather who was in Wicked: For Good and Pokemon, and we’ve got lots of props from Wicked, Shrek, the Batlights – we’ve got lots going on. And we’ve got our quiz, the cosplay masquerade.”
