Malaysia Travel Takes Centre Stage as Japan Expo Twenty Twenty-Six Draws Fifty Thousand Visitors with Spectacular Culture, Tourism, Entertainment and Business Experiences

Malaysia travel is set to take centre stage as Japan Expo Malaysia Twenty Twenty-Six prepares to welcome around fifty thousand visitors to Kuala Lumpur from 24 to 26 July, driven by a powerful mix of Japanese culture, tourism promotion, business networking, live entertainment, food, technology, anime and traditional arts. Held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre as an official Visit Malaysia Year Twenty Twenty-Six event, the free-entry expo will bring together more than fifty exhibitors and over twenty Japanese and Malaysian performers, while exclusive concerts, cultural showcases, awards and a major cosplay competition will further strengthen tourism exchange and people-to-people ties between Malaysia and Japan.

Malaysia is reinforcing its position as one of Asia’s leading cultural tourism destinations as Japan Expo Malaysia (JEMY) 2026 returns for its seventh edition from 24 to 26 July 2026 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC). Recognised as an official event under the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 calendar, the three-day celebration is designed to deepen tourism, business and cultural links between Malaysia and Japan while welcoming around 50,000 visitors from across the country and the wider Southeast Asian region. By combining authentic Japanese experiences with Malaysian hospitality, the event highlights how cultural festivals continue to stimulate tourism, encourage international partnerships and strengthen regional travel.

Japan Expo Malaysia Returns with Bigger Tourism and Cultural Showcase

Japan Expo Malaysia has grown into the largest all-Japan exhibition in Malaysia, offering visitors a comprehensive journey through Japanese culture, tourism, education, innovation, food, lifestyle and entertainment. Scheduled at Hall 6 of the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, the expo will once again provide free admission, making it accessible to families, students, travellers and Japanese culture enthusiasts.

Its inclusion in the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 campaign demonstrates the event’s increasing importance in supporting Malaysia’s tourism ambitions while promoting stronger two-way visitor exchanges with Japan. The expo also creates opportunities for both nations to showcase their cultural identity while encouraging future travel between the two countries.

More Than Fifty Exhibitors Bring Authentic Japanese Experiences

Visitors will have the opportunity to explore exhibits from more than 50 exhibitors, each presenting different aspects of Japanese life and tourism.

    • Authentic Japanese cuisine and regional food experiences
    • Travel destinations across Japan
    • Education and study opportunities
    • Japanese lifestyle and consumer products
    • Anime and cosplay attractions
    • Technology and innovation displays
    • Traditional arts and cultural performances

Beyond public exhibitions, the event also serves as a commercial platform where Malaysian and Japanese businesses can establish partnerships, launch products and expand their presence in regional markets.

Major Cultural Performances Celebrate Malaysia and Japan Friendship

One of the biggest attractions will be the official opening ceremony celebrating the long-standing friendship between Malaysia and Japan.

Award-winning Malaysian entertainer MimiFly will perform alongside celebrated Japanese performer Naomichi Hanazono, who has gained recognition for presenting traditional Japanese performing arts in a contemporary style that appeals to younger audiences.

Visitors will also experience the energetic Awa Odori dance from Tokushima Prefecture, offering a colourful display of one of Japan’s most famous traditional festivals and reinforcing the country’s rich cultural heritage.

Speaking ahead of the event, H.E. Shikata Noriyuki, Ambassador of Japan to Malaysia, said the expo demonstrates how cultural exchanges continue to strengthen the relationship between both nations by encouraging greater understanding, friendship and cooperation, particularly among younger generations.

Entertainment Programme Brings Japanese Music to Kuala Lumpur

Entertainment will remain a major attraction throughout the three-day event.

More than 20 Japanese and Malaysian artists will perform live across multiple stages, presenting programmes that combine traditional performances, instrumental music and contemporary J-Pop entertainment.

    • Banzai Japan
    • Kotomen
    • Nakano Himawari
    • Rina Hime
    • KLP48
    • Several additional Japanese and Malaysian artists

The expo will also feature two exclusive ticketed concerts.

Japanese alternative band Atarayo will perform on 24 July, followed by internationally renowned idol group AKB48 on 25 July.

These headline concerts are the only paid performances during the event, with ticket prices beginning at RM180, while every other stage performance will remain free for visitors who complete advance online registration.

Awards and Cosplay Competition Add More Excitement

Japan Expo Malaysia 2026 will also recognise outstanding achievements through the Japan Expo Malaysia Awards 2026.

Nine individuals and organisations will receive awards acknowledging their significant contributions towards strengthening Japan–Malaysia cultural and business cooperation.

Another major attraction will be the Cosplay Competition, which offers a total prize pool of RM10,000.

The competition invites participants from across Malaysia to showcase elaborate costumes inspired by:

    • Anime
    • Manga
    • Video games
    • Japanese popular culture

Contestants can pre-register through the official Japan Expo Malaysia social media platforms.

Strong Institutional Support Drives Tourism Cooperation

The event is jointly organised by Siam Connection Sdn Bhd and G-Yu Creative Co. Ltd.

It receives support from several leading organisations, including:

    • Embassy of Japan in Malaysia
    • Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO)
    • Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO)
    • The Japan Foundation Kuala Lumpur
    • Tourism Malaysia
    • Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB)

The broad institutional backing reflects the importance both countries place on expanding tourism, cultural exchange and bilateral economic cooperation.

Countries Featured in This Tourism Story

The international significance of the event is reflected through the countries directly connected to the expo:

    • 🇲🇾 Malaysia – Host nation and organiser under the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 campaign.
    • 🇯🇵 Japan – Partner nation showcasing its tourism, culture, business, entertainment and innovation.

Malaysia travel will gain fresh momentum as Japan Expo Malaysia Twenty Twenty-Six welcomes around fifty thousand visitors to Kuala Lumpur with Japanese culture, tourism, entertainment, business and innovation from 24 to 26 July.

A Landmark Event Supporting Regional Tourism Growth

Japan Expo Malaysia 2026 represents much more than a cultural festival. It serves as a strategic tourism platform connecting Malaysia and Japan through travel promotion, business collaboration, cultural diplomacy and entertainment. With 50 exhibitors, 50,000 expected visitors, internationally recognised performers, traditional cultural showcases, business networking opportunities and free public access, the expo continues to strengthen Malaysia’s position as a gateway for Japanese cultural experiences in Southeast Asia while encouraging future travel between both countries. The event will take place from 24 to 26 July 2026 at Hall 6 of the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, welcoming visitors to experience one of the region’s largest celebrations of Japan under one roof.
