Konami Cross Media NY Partners with Mad Cave Studios to Bring “Contra” to Comic Books

The legendary run-and-gun arcade franchise is set to make its comic book debut in January 2027 with a 12-issue series, trade paperbacks, and a Deluxe Edition.
Konami Cross Media NY, Inc. has officially signed a landmark licensing agreement with independent publisher Mad Cave Studios to adapt KONAMI’s iconic action video game franchise, Contra, into an expansive comic book series.
The partnership aims to translate the high-octane, sci-fi action of the beloved video game series into a rich, character-driven print narrative. The rollout will feature:
Multiple trade paperback volumes
A premium, prestigious Deluxe Edition
The licensing agreement spans major global markets, securing distribution across the United States, Canada, Latin America, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand.
Expanding the Contra Universe
Originally launched in arcades in 1987, Contra became a cornerstone of gaming history, famous for its intense difficulty, co-op gameplay, and alien-invasion storyline. This new comic venture seeks to honor that legacy while adding narrative depth to the franchise.
