2.5D performance ticket sales will exceed 28.3 billion yen in 2023
The PIA Research Institute and the Japan 2.5-Dimensional Musical Theater Association released the results of the 2023 “2.5-Dimensional Music Market Trends” survey last Friday. According to them, based on animation, comics, games (such as kingdom and Spy×Family) hits an all-time high in 2023.
Approximately 2.89 million people watched the 2.5D stage play in 2023, an increase of 5% from 2022.
In the early 2010s, there were only about 40 2.5D musicals. This number increased to more than 100 in 2014 and to more than 200 in 2019.
In addition to recovering and growing after the COVID-19 pandemic, the industry is also selling tickets overseas to meet growing demand outside of Japan. For example, this musical is adapted from Isayama Hajimeof attack on titan Comics (pictured right) had its first international show at New York City Center in New York City from October 11-13.
