The V&A has announced Punk to Pop, a new exhibition celebrating the music, art, and fashion of the 1970s-1980s underground, coming to South Kensington on 13 March 2027

The exhibition will is scheduled to run until 2 January 2028, and will feature roughly three-hundred objects on display, including stage costumes, music videos, photographs, designs, and more. It will explore the underground and DIY culture between 1972 and 1985, particularly how punk movements would go on to create genres that inspired pop culture over the years — from Sex Pistols to The Slits, The Specials to Joy Division, and Wham! to Eurythmics

At the heart of the exhibition is cultural change, with the displayed objects showcasing responses to boredom, political unrest, and technological advances while highlighting the way that music offered both an escape, and an acceptance of individuality, sexuality, and identity
