Bosnia and Herzegovina chose my late summerDirected by Oscar-winning filmmaker Danis Tanović as his official entry into the 2025 Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category.
The comedy, which premiered as the opening film at this year’s Sarajevo Film Festival, follows feisty 30-something Maya (played by Anya Matkovic) as she travels to a remote island to resolve a family inheritance dispute. But encountered a conflict. What begins as a pursuit of material wealth turns into a deeper quest for identity and forgiveness when she falls in love with the enchanting island and its eccentric locals, and an unexpected romance blossoms.

While Tanovic is best known for his Bosnian films, he has also tried his hand at English-language features, including the 2020 crime thriller Postcard Killing (2020), starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Famke Janssen, Cush Jumbo, Triage (2009), in which Colin Ferrell plays a war photographer.
Tanovich is no stranger to Oscars. He remains the only Bosnian director to win an Academy Award, taking the best international feature honor in 2002 for the anti-war drama no man’s land. his 2013 documentary Episodes from the life of an ironworkerThe film, which won two Silver Bears at the Berlin Film Festival, was on the Oscar shortlist but was not nominated. The shortlist for Best International Feature Film will be announced on December 17.
