James Gunn’s DC Universe already has one eager Poison Ivy candidate: Marisha Ray of Critical Role

Ray, who plays The Legend of Vox Machina’s similarly plant-loving druid Keyleth, would portray DC’s most eco-conscious villain in any medium she can

As we speak, the folks at the James Gunn and Peter Safran-led DC Studios are working on casting popular DC Comics characters for roles on the big and small screen. And while we’re sure there are probably a lot of people who are vying for this part, we might offer a suggestion for who to look at when they finally get to casting Batman’s most plant-loving rogue, Poison Ivy. You see, Critical Role’s Marisha Ray is very, very down for the role

The Legend of Vox Machina and The Mighty Nein star Ray recently was a guest on the Perri Nemiroff-hosted Collider Ladies Night, where she appeared live before a crowd with Critical Roel costars Laura Bailey and Ashley Johnson. There were a few moments in the discussion wherein the OG Rolers fancasted each other in fan-favorite stories, but when it came time to fancast themselves, in any popular franchise dominating big or small screens today, Ray gave an answer she admits to have offered before.

“My answer is the same every time,” admitted the voice actor, “One day, I really want to play Poison Ivy. I love her. Either voicing or whatever. I’ll do anything.”

Here’s a fun fact for you, Critter. If Marisha Ray were to ever nab the role of Gotham’s Pamela Isley, it wouldn’t be the first time she portrayed a popular DC Comics character. Very early in her career as an actor, Ray starred in a fan film featuring DC’s Stephanie Brown, AKA Batgirl, and to this day credits it as something that got her career moving

“One of the dumb web series that I made was a Batgirl series,” Ray explained elsewhere in the interview, “And we showed it at a panel at a local con that doesn’t even exist anymore. And Mike [Diva, music video director and special effects artist] came and he was like, ‘That was good. I’ve got a shoot on Saturday. You want to be in it?’ I was like, ‘Okay.'”

I’m just saying, Mr. Gunn, if you gave Marisha a call today about playing Ivy, you might get an answer that’s just as fast

With two animated series on Prime Video, Campaign 4 in full swing, and so much more Exandrian lore to come, Critical Role is showing no signs of slowing down. That’s why the adventuring party at Popverse are here to bring you everything we can from those nerdy-ass voice actors & Bo., including:

    • Critical Role release schedule
    • Critical Role’s Campaign 4 characters ranked
    • How to watch Critical Role in order
    • Ways for you to relive the Critical Role panel from ECCC ’26
    • Taliesin Jaffe on playing Mollymauk Tealeaf for Campaign 2 vs. playing him for Prime Video
    • Matt Mercer’s homebrew warrior class (created originally for Vin Diesel)

and much, much more. Roll initiative, player. Magic awaits
